Craziest Brabus ever? BRABUS CRAWLER - "ONE OF 15"!

With the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER, the German high-end automobile manufacturer is presenting its first supercar with a self-constructed chassis and an open, four-seater visible carbon body to mark the company's 45th anniversary. The crawler is designed as an uncompromising fun car for off-road use and is therefore not street legal. The new BRABUS supercar will be produced in a limited edition of just 15 units, which will be delivered over a period of three years. The heart of the new supercar is the BRABUS ROCKET 900 V8 biturbo engine with a peak output of 662 kW / 900 hp and a maximum torque of 1.250 Nm. In conjunction with the nine-speed gearbox, which can be shifted either automatically or manually using shift paddles, and permanent all-wheel drive, the 2065-kilogram bolide catapults itself from a standing start to 3,4 km/h in just 100 seconds. The top speed was increased electronically because of the heavy-duty off-road tires 160 km/h limited.

BRABUS CRAWLER – “ONE OF 15”

The chassis of the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER consists of a tube frame made of high-strength steel in striking BRABUS red. Portal axles at the front and rear give the off-road supercar a ground clearance of 53 centimeters. Special spring struts with damping and height adjustment were developed to match, which offer up to 160 millimeters of spring travel and are therefore also suitable for use in extreme terrain. The tires also correspond to the field of application of the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER: The BRABUS Monoblock HD forged wheels are equipped with 40 x 13.50 R 20 off-road tires. The open body of the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER in the style of a dune buggy and the roof, which primarily serves to provide shade, are made of high-strength visible carbon.

The underbody panels are made of aluminum and durable carbon-kevlar. The BRABUS CRAWLER interior is made in the in-house upholstery shop of BRABUS. As a contrast to the dominant carbon, the seat cushions of the four racing seats were covered in bright red Silvertex. This material is extremely resistant to external influences such as sun, dust and water and was adopted from the BRABUS Marine High Performance boats. The exclusive cockpit also includes a modern intercom system for driver and passengers as well as GPS-supported off-road navigation, as used in desert rallies. The BRABUS 900 CRAWLER costs 891.310 euros (price including statutory VAT in Germany).

to celebrate the 45th anniversary

Craziest Brabus ever? BRABUS CRAWLER - "ONE OF 15"!

BRABUS was founded by Bodo Buschmann in 1977 and is therefore celebrating its 2022th anniversary in 45. For this reason, the engineers, technicians and designers of the German high-tech company developed their first supercar with its own chassis and an open, four-seater body made of high-strength visible carbon. The aim of this development was to build the ultimate racer for great driving fun in the desert dunes. In order to achieve this goal without compromise, the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER was designed as an exclusive high-performance off-roader that is not street legal. In order to give this supercar outstanding rigidity, which can effortlessly cope with even the toughest off-road use, a special tube frame was constructed using the latest CAD technology. The chassis with integrated safety cell is made of high-strength steel and then painted in bright BRABUS red.

Chassis suspensions designed for maximum resilience are used on this chassis at the front and rear to accommodate the portal axles specially designed for this supercar. With this design, the engine, transmission, differentials and drive shafts are moved upwards. This necessitates the construction of special wheel carriers with integrated offset gears, which compensate for this difference in height to drive the wheels. All the special parts required for this are milled from solid high-strength aluminium. This includes not only the wheel carrier and all wishbones, but also the integral carrier of the independent wheel suspension on the front axle and the axle housing of the rigid axle at the rear. With this complex construction, the BRABUS chassis developers achieve a maximum ground clearance of 53 centimeters, which is extremely advantageous in tough off-road use.

new BRABUS aluminum struts

Tailor-made, particularly robust BRABUS aluminum struts were specially developed for this chassis. The shock absorbers are four times adjustable, for high and low speed and twelve clicks each in compression and rebound. Of course, the enormously dimensioned tires with off-road profile also contribute to the enormous ground clearance of the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER. The 40 x 13.50 R 20 tires are ridden all around on BRABUS Monoblock HD "PLATINUM EDITION" forged wheels in the 9.5Jx20 format, which were produced for the enormous loads of tough off-road use with eight-hole attachments that match the BRABUS portal axles. In the event of a puncture en route, a fifth, identical complete wheel was attached to the rear as a replacement.

To match the king-size tires, extra-wide wheel arches on the front and rear axles have been integrated into the visible carbon body. As a consistent high-end interpretation of a desert buggy, the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER body bolted to the tube frame has neither doors nor windows at the front, sides and rear. For this purpose, a roof panel, also made of carbon fiber, was mounted on the steel safety cell designed as a roll cage as sun protection. At the rear end of the roof, the BRABUS rear wing adds a decidedly sporty accent. The roof skin of the CRAWLER not only offers shade for the crew, but also has integrated ventilation shafts and vents for the passengers in the rear seats. Two high-performance LED panels are integrated on the front left and right of the central air intake in the roof skin, which help the main headlights in the front end to illuminate the terrain in front of the supercar as bright as day when it is dark.

Carbon dress with large air intakes

For use in the hot desert, the front was designed in such a way that the coolers are supplied with as much fresh air as possible. For this purpose, the carbon dress was provided with large air intakes. The stainless steel underride protection integrated in the front apron protects the most important units from dangerous contact with the terrain. The underbody protection under the rear fulfills the same task. The aluminum quick-release fastener for the 100 liter safety fuel tank is integrated on the right rear side. The wide carbon sills on both sides of the vehicle are designed to be so stable that they also serve as a boarding aid. Another visual feature of the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER is the bonnet. It not only has two air intakes at the front, but also efficiently discharges the air heated by the engine from the engine compartment via outlets integrated on the side.

Of course, only the most powerful engine from the wide range of engines from the Bottrop-based company, which is accredited as a vehicle manufacturer by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, came into question for the first supercar to be produced entirely in-house. Eight cylinders, two turbochargers, displacement of 4,5 liters: These are the key data of the BRABUS 900 ROCKET V8 biturbo displacement engine that drives the CRAWLER. The engine is a technological masterpiece with selected high-tech components. This includes forged pistons with a diameter of 84 millimeters as well as finely balanced special connecting rods and a special crankshaft milled from solid with a stroke of 100 millimeters.

with BRABUS special turbochargers

The elements of the charging system have also been selected: the two BRABUS special turbochargers produce a maximum charge pressure of 1,4 bar. The two BRABUS BoostXtra valves provide an exciting blow-off noise when changing loads. High-pressure fuel pumps and a RAM-AIR intake system with special air filters supply the engine with fuel and breathing air. This engine is attractively packaged under the sporty BRABUS engine cover, which is made of red carbon fibers. On the exhaust side there is the BRABUS high-performance exhaust system, which not only impresses with the two matt black tailpipes in sidepipe design, which are led out on each side of the vehicle in front of the rear wheels under the carbon rocker panels. Special downpipes with a diameter of 76 millimeters allow the eight-cylinder to breathe out just as freely as the metal catalytic converters. The two BRABUS silencers with exhaust flap control enable active sound management. At the push of a button on the steering wheel, you can choose between a robust V8 sound in sport mode or a discreet whisper in "Coming Home" mode.

The BRABUS high-performance components have been precisely matched to each other by the BRABUS engine engineers and electronics specialists. This not only results in flawless stability, but also in tremendous power delivery. The engine of the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER delivers 662 kW / 900 hp at just 6 rpm. Equally outstanding is the maximum torque of 200 Nm, which is already available at 1 rpm. In the vehicle, this value is electronically limited to 250 Nm. BRABUS also recommends high-performance lubricants from MOTUL for tough desert use. Power is transmitted to the permanent all-wheel drive with electronically controlled differentials via a nine-speed gearbox, which is shifted using the BRABUS RACE shift paddles on the ergonomically shaped steering wheel. Alternatively, the automatic mode can also be selected.

only 3,4 seconds to 100 km / h

The explosive combination of 900 horsepower and all-wheel drive is reflected in enormous acceleration: the BRABUS 900 CRAWLER catapults itself to 3,4 km/h in just 100 seconds despite an unladen weight of more than two tons plus crew electronically limited to 160 km/h.

The fascination of this desert racer can be experienced in the cockpit like never before in a BRABUS supercar. For the fascinating BRABUS 900 CRAWLER, the driver plus a maximum of three passengers are strapped into the carbon racing seats with four-point belts. These offer perfect support with excellent comfort. In the BRABUS upholstery shop, their upholstery was covered with bright red Silvertex, which perfectly matches the frame and some interior parts in the same color. This high-tech material was adopted from the BRABUS Marine High Performance sports boats. In the desert racer, however, insensitivity to water is less important than to sand. In addition, this material offers excellent protection against color fading in the sun. Just as extraordinary as this choice of material is the high-quality workmanship with millimeter-precise quilting and BRABUS logos embroidered on the headrest.

Interior with red anodized parts

Matching the red accents that BRABUS sets with the frame, the chassis components and the seat upholstery, there are red anodized parts in the interior such as the pedals and the footrest for the driver as well as red glazed elements such as the switches. The bracket for the GPS navigation system placed in front of the co-pilot is also finished in the same color. On request, BRABUS can also supply individually compiled, digital maps of the CRAWLER buyer's area of operation. There is an intercom system on board for communication between the individual crew members. This can be used with intercoms or other headsets integrated into the four included BRABUS carbon helmets. The BRABUS 900 CRAWLER is built as an exclusive limited edition of just 15 vehicles. The first five of these supercars will be delivered later this year. Five more crawlers each will follow in 2023 and 2024.
