Started in 1997, the tiny Smart has developed into a lifestyle vehicle that can score with a good image and parking-friendly dimensions. Initially ridiculed, it is now hard to imagine European road traffic without it, and has evolved over time. The tiny model has only been available with an electric drive since 2021, and has therefore undergone the greatest transformation in its history. In order to keep the interest in the small car high, and possibly also to convince electric skeptics of the advantages of a Smart, special editions of the car are repeatedly presented to the public. Now the latest equipment variant is in the starting blocks, namely the Brabus Smart EQ Fortwo Racing Green Edition, which we would like to introduce to you in more detail today.
Tiny with style.
Much has not been changed on the Smart, but the minor modifications compared to the production model are enough to raise the little ones to a higher level in terms of lifestyle. The name is based on the traditional exterior color of British racing cars special paintthat adorns this carriage, Racing green metallic. Usually more of a color that looks good on a Mini Cooper, but it takes a bit of getting used to on a Smart.
A car like a Smart is definitely not designed to have sporting ambitions, even if many Smart drivers like to get the most out of their car and want to show the performance of their city runabout. This Smart also rolls up 16-inch alloy wheels from Brabus called Monoblock XI, which come up with black spokes and silver accents. In our opinion, there is a different way of doing sport, but such a humming top cannot conjure up a sports car.
However, we are a long way from classifying this special edition as unnecessary, because it will surely find its fans who are willing to pay the exorbitant price of over 20.000 euros for so little car.
Luxury moves into the interior.
We think it's a little unnecessary to have a Smart with a Nappa leather interior in cognac to equip, which also has hand-stitched decorative seams, but there is space for luxury in the smallest hut, as is well known. The dashboard is also completely covered with leather, giving the city runabout a classy ambience.
A few other modifications have also found their way into the interior, such as one perforated sports pedals made of aluminum, a Aluminum handbrake lever , and a Automatic selector lever in sports optics. In terms of the infotainment system, there was no upgrade, and the special edition has the same navigation and sound system with an 8-inch touchscreen as the normal versions.
The range is a bad joke!
The electric smart is powered by one 81 PS strong electric motor, but only from a measly one 17,6 kWh battery is powered. Thus are maximal 129 km range inside, and in everyday life a shopping trip with a traffic jam should be a challenge. Incidentally, the top speed is 130 km / h, which is suitable for motorways, and it takes 0 seconds from 100 to 11,6 kilometers per hour. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a stepless automatic.
The Conclusion to this Smart:
Our recommendation, which is not meant to be taken seriously, is: Only take the car to the next stop and then take the public transport!
