Kevin Hart's 1987 Buick GNX “Dark Knight” Unveiled at SEMA!

Curtain up on Kevin Hart's "Dark Knight" Buick Grand National as a thoroughbred superhero car. And the Restomod one-off took a few months. Kevin Hart first saw the heavily modified 1987 Buick GNX last week when it was unveiled to the world public at the 2022 SEMA Show. Commissioned by the car enthusiast, the Restomod features a host of significant and thematically appropriate changes. And known for naming his vehicles ("Michael Myers", "Hellraiser" etc.), of course, this vehicle also got one. And, as already mentioned, he is called "Dark Knight". The black-painted vehicle stands on black mesh rims from HRE Performance Wheels with Toyo Tires, has modern air conditioning from Vintage Airs installed and has a roll cage with a printed name that is visible when boarding.

There was also a hood and aprons made of carbon and the rear spoiler and much of the Gabe Custom interior are made of carbon fiber. On the other hand, nothing has been changed on the T-Top and a V6 engine is still available as a drive. However, it is no longer the original engine. Instead, a six-cylinder from the GM family provides propulsion. Specifically, it is the engine from the Cadillac ATS-V, which delivers 470 PS & 603 Nm of torque ex works.

As far as we know, apart from a Magnaflow exhaust system, the engine is stock. And that should easily be enough, because the old drive with only 304 PS & 569 Nm was significantly weaker. Incidentally, it is now slowed down by means of a Brembo brake. "The [GNX] thing – I feel like this car is a work of art' Hart explained after the reveal. Although Hart came up with the name and concept, he turned to Salvaggio Design and Sean Smith Designs for the actual remodel.

a sleeper to our liking

The tuners had one goal in mind. To meet Hart's wishes exactly and to create an extraordinary vehicle that, however, remains largely true to the original car. "Basically, the inspiration was to build on the base of the old Grand National' said Sean Smith. "It was a great car from the factory, but we wanted to highlight a few things and make it even better. Keeping the V6 was part of it, but at the same time the GNX should also become a kind of wolf in sheep's clothing“. And that should have been successful.
