Checker Motors Corporation

Checker Motors Corporation was an automotive parts supplier based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. However, the company no longer exists. Until the year 1982 they manufactured automobiles, especially taxis, of the Checker brand. The company was founded exactly 60 years ago. Checker was founded by Morris Markin in 1922 by merging Commonwealth Motors Corporation and body manufacturer Markin Body Manufacturing Corporation. One of the most famous vehicles for private individuals was the Checker Marathon. It was built in Kalamazoo (Michigan) from 1963 to 1982 and was largely identical to the Checker taxi. From 1963, a distinction was only made between taxi and non-taxi versions. For decades, Checkers were the cab of choice in New York City and many other US cities.
