It is deep winter just a few kilometers from the Arctic Circle. In the completely snow-covered area, the temperatures are around 30 degrees below freezing point. Icy wind makes breathing difficult. As indescribably beautiful as this area appears, it is truly not made for Central Europeans. And certainly not for an electric vehicle - or is it?

A circular route can be seen on a six square kilometer frozen lake. Engineers have tested the CUPRA Born * in this inhospitable environment for two years. In the final development phase before its world premiere, the brand's first fully electrically powered model is once again pushed to the limit under these difficult conditions.

The CUPRA Born has to face a total of more than 1.000 tests at the coldest temperatures. They cover 30.000 test kilometers day and night. The goal: The CUPRA Born should achieve the best performance in all conditions.

100 percent CUPRA, 100 percent adrenaline

In addition to longevity, the dynamics of the CUPRA Born are also an essential aspect during its development. The adaptive chassis control DCC and the various damper settings are tested on the frozen lake. The inside of the circuit is smoother, the outside rougher. This means that tests of driving stability can be carried out without any impact on the environment.

Precise braking

The CUPRA Born also has to prove itself on surfaces that are partly asphalted and partly icy. The CUPRA team simulates the most difficult conditions, sensors on all four wheels help with the analysis of the surface and thus ensure stable and precise braking behavior.

Always comfortable

Since the CUPRA Born is electrically powered, there are also comfort advantages: Even at -30ºC, the vehicle delivers maximum heating output from the first second. Even 4.000 kilometers from the development center in Martorell (Barcelona), engineers use the latest technology such as 3D printers to develop the air conditioning. So they were able to develop a system that is still efficient. For future customers this means: high levels of comfort with the longest possible electric range.

The CUPRA Born: coming soon

The fully electric powered vehicle from CUPRA has successfully passed each of the more than 1.000 tests under extreme conditions. Nothing stands in the way of the world premiere of the CUPRA Born at the beginning of May.

Don't worry, of course that was far from being the case when it came to auto / auto tuning. Our magazine still has tens of thousands other tuning reports in stock. Do you want to see them all? His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
