How the CUPRA Born makes everyday driving school life easier!

he first driving lesson is remembered by many as a special moment. Finally sitting behind the wheel, turning the key, using the turn signal and starting to roll. But at the next crossing: a jerk, the car stops. Hustle and bustle spreads behind the wheel. Restart, the transmission creaks when the gear is engaged, and with too much gas and the engine roaring loudly, the journey continues... The first automotive experiences have been made and the classic driving school experience at the beginning of the practical part is over.

CUPRA Born and everyday driving school life

  • Driving school shows how well e-mobility works in your everyday life
  • E-car combined with photovoltaic system on the house
  • More relaxed driving lessons convince the learner drivers

Jan Schnücker's first driving lesson is also an experience - but of a completely different kind. He has been using the new CUPRA Born in his driving school in Schwalmstadt, Hesse, since the beginning of the year. There's no creaky gearbox, no jerky starts, and no loud roaring engine to give your neighbors a headache. The CUPRA Born of the Schnücker driving school in Schwalmstadt stands out. The Schnückers made sure of that very consciously and with great attention to detail.

A very special CUPRA Born

"This is our e-elephant. The safari theme runs through the entire driving school,” explains Jan Schnücker, pointing to the dark gray CUPRA Born. Orange silhouettes of elephants characterize the sides of the vehicle, surrounded by green leaves that complement the design. "Schwalmsafahri" is the company name on the sides - the additional "h" as an allusion to driving and driving school. Jan Schnücker and his wife Vanessa had the idea for the safari theme back in 2008 on their honeymoon in Kenya. Since then they have consistently implemented it in the training rooms with suitable decoration and pictures as well as on the vehicles with corresponding designs. They have long been known in their homeland with their colorful driving school cars based on animals.

Well thought-out entry into e-mobility

The CUPRA Born is the newest member of the Schnücker herd. Jan Schnücker has ventured into new territory with him. Because: Electric vehicles have rarely been used in everyday driving school life in Germany. But the Schnückers dared to try – but not head over heels, but well thought out. “Driving schools should find out beforehand what it means to drive an electric car. It's about charging points, it's about the possibility of range, how is the vehicle used and how do I get it charged in the evening," explains Jan Schnücker.

The couple solved the question of charging options with a photovoltaic system on the roof of their home. You can charge the CUPRA Born overnight and the vehicle is fully operational in the morning. "If I'm on the road with the learner drivers every day, then I can really work from 20 a.m. in the morning to XNUMX p.m. in the evening, including driving at night," says Jan Schnücker. Especially in everyday driving school with many short distances, many parking and basic driving manoeuvres, the e-car can play to its strengths. While the constant starting and the short distances with combustion engines lead to high consumption, the battery of the e-car is only moderately stressed here.

Convinces driving instructors and learner drivers

When looking for a suitable vehicle for everyday driving school use, the choice quickly fell on the CUPRA Born, as Jan Schnücker explains: "The CUPRA Born convinced us with its dynamics. It is really easy to handle in practice, the learner drivers get along very well with it. And they also have a lot of fun experiencing and driving this vehicle.”

Luzie was one of the first to get behind the wheel of the CUPRA Born and take her driving test in the electric car. “It has a very different sound and it's a very different feeling to drive. I sometimes felt like I was in a spaceship. I thought that was really cool," she says. “I was always very restless with the combustion engine, even with a gearshift, and I was afraid of making mistakes – for example by stalling or changing gears incorrectly. In the electric car, on the other hand, I was relaxed because I couldn’t do anything wrong.”

The herd will grow

Jan Schnücker has already driven a good 23.000 kilometers with his learner drivers since February. Thanks to the photovoltaic system, the Schnückers only had to pay a double-digit amount for charging. A second CUPRA Born is to follow in 2024. "We will gradually convert our fleet to electric vehicles if the opportunity arises," explains Jan Schnücker. Then creaking gearboxes and roaring engines will finally be a thing of the past and the learner drivers will only start their safari adventure with the Schnückers with a hum.
