Single piece: 650 PS Canepa Porsche 962 BiTurbo Speedster!

It only exists once! tuner Canepa Motorsports has a Porsche 934 body (typical front spoiler, fender flares at the front and rear etc.) used as a single piece as Porsche 962 Twin Turbo Speedster to build. The "One-of-One" was created in 1990 and has a 962 engine built by Jerry Woods with a maximum of 650 hp and 745 NM torque under the hood. The body is based on the style of the 356 Speedster from the late 50s and made the Carrera-based 911 Speedster an absolute eye-catcher. However, the achievement was the then owner and car collector Gary Primm not enough, so that after only 100 miles driven, the Speedster had to endure an extensive conversion. Primm spoke to Bruce Canepa about how the Speedster can be improved in appearance and performance.

The result is the Canepa Motorsports Porsche 962 Twin-Turbo Speedster in Guards Red. Inspired by the 934 with the wide fenders and the 10 and 13 inch wide rims, there was a racing chassis from the 935 (with Stevens Machining, Wrightwood Racing and Bilstein Parts), a high-end sports brake system and the factory front spoiler as well as the thick fenders are supplemented with a DP rear wing. The absolute highlight is definitely the 962 racing engine that has been adapted for the road. The engine has, for example, 100 mm pistons, a 70,4 mm crankshaft and 3,3 liters of displacement. There were also K26 turbochargers from the 959S and an intercooler from Fred Garretson as well as a specially made stainless steel exhaust system with stainless steel silencer and two tailpipes in 935 optics.

1,3 bar boost pressure enable 650 HP

Using adapted electronics, an in-house double ignition system and a prototype of a fuel injection management system at the time, 581 hp at 6500 rpm with 1,1 BAR boost pressure and a 745 NM are generated. And if you screw the boost pressure up to 1,3 bar, even 650 hp are possible. The engine, however, requires a 28-liter oil tank which was installed in the front trunk. And a special pressure accumulator in the rear wheel arch through which the engine “breathes” and separates oil and air is also installed. And the engine that was actually installed in the middle of the 962 has also received a completely new intake under the DP wing.

Incidentally, the powerful power is transmitted using a G-50 5-speed gearbox from a 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo. In the cabin there is an instrument cluster from the 959, there were 4-point seat belts, a roll bar and a welded-in side impact protection are now also installed to enable more safety and stability. The axles come with 935 center lock hubs and mounted on them are beautiful three-piece BBS rims that allow a view of the 935 brake discs with 959 Brembo brake calipers. The "962 Twin-Turbo Speedster" is a timeless highlight of the tuning art of the time, which Porsche couldn't have built better!
