Car wrapping - the equivalent alternative to painting

Car wrapping - the equivalent alternative to painting

In Europe, the colors black and white and various silver and gray variants dominate in passenger cars. More powerful colors, such as blue, green or red follow at a large distance, with red occupying the top spot of the chasing group. Due to the financial expense of repainting the original color usually has a vehicle life inventory. But thanks to state-of-the-art technology, it has been possible for some years now to give cars a new look without repainting. The magic word here is Car Wrapping (Fahrzeugfolierung).

Repainting for used & damaged vehicles

Especially in the used car area, the choice of color is mostly negligible. The models on the market are not tailored like new cars to the customer, but sold in actual condition. The main focus here is on the technical and optical condition as well as the price. Whether dark green or dark blue, there is rather incidental. But just used cars often come with smaller or larger quirks in the paint job. For the new owner, it would be a double win if the exterior could be renewed. The car could look like new and get the color of choice. Another prime example of a new painting is an accident. Just as polluter or, if the car is in the parking lot one morning with a damage of unknown, you have to pay yourself for the repair costs. In the paint industry, for reasons of cost, mostly qualitative compromises are accepted.

Arguments for Car Wrapping

The so-called Autofolie has developed into a nearly equivalent alternative to the classic paint. Ten years ago, differences in the appearance were still clearly visible, the process today is equal to the painting. Modern technology makes this quality leap possible, and now Car Wrapping is also offered in countless workshops. At the top of the list of benefits is the financial burden. The material costs for the film are significantly lower than those of varnish. But of course there are price differences and quality differences between products from different manufacturers. Basically, it can be said that car wrapping costs about half of the classic paint job. Crafty drivers also have the opportunity to apply the film themselves.

Another bonus point is that the film protects the actual paint. It can also be removed without leaving any residue. The varnish thus remains protected against harmful influences during its entire useful life. Fading, stone chips or superficial scratches are spared the paint job. In particular, if the car is to be resold at some point, the car after removal of the film appears well-groomed, and the seller can quote a higher price. Individualists with their own color wishes can therefore fulfill this. When selling the car trumps then with immaculate original paint.

is a paint job better than a film?

Car wrapping has evolved. Today's methods and materials are so sophisticated and high-quality that a real difference in quality is no longer detectable. The only difference is in the structure. Slide feels different. A shortcoming should be mentioned. Classic paint is more durable. With a film, signs of wear become noticeable after 5 up to 6 years at the latest. It may happen that it dissolves in some places or pay tribute to the sunlight. In order to maintain the protection of the original paint, it is recommended to apply a new film. But this can also be seen as a chance for a fresh look. A new color may not be wrong. By the way, car paint looks in normal use after five to six years and no longer dewy.

Of course that had not happened yet!
