It is the latest version of the plug-in hybrid - the 2018 i8 Roadster from BMW. In contrast to the coupé, the long-awaited roadster only comes as a two-seater and in combination with a fully automatic fabric roof. The open temptation, like the new i8 Coupé, is made on the LifeDrive vehicle architecture with an aluminum chassis and passenger cell made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and is also equipped with the significantly improved PHEV battery. Allegedly, that's enough to drive a maximum of 120 km / h purely electrically and to travel a good 53 km under perfect conditions. The output of the 231 HP -1,5 liter three-cylinder (B38K15T0) is unchanged, but the electric motor is a bit stronger and now provides a system output of 374 HP.
Tradition tuner AC Schnitzer had been one of the first ever with the VorFaclift busy and now it was the turn of the lifted variant. The specimen refined here comes almost completely in innocent white and is only set in scene with high contrast by the AC Schnitzer exposed carbon parts. The components are identical to those on the coupe and consist of side spoiler elements on the front apron, attachments for the side skirts, new mirror caps and air outlets on the front fenders.
There are also modified recessed grips behind the doors, a fixed, very distinctive rear spoiler and a sporty diffuser for the rear apron. Small details such as the air outlets on the rear side panels, the subtle front spoiler center section or the individual frames of the new radiator grille kidneys in body color round off the successful changes to the body impressively. And of course the well-known AC Schnitzer AC1 wheel set, which is installed on the presentation vehicle in glossy black, should not be missing. The exact dimensions are 8,5 × 21 inches on the front axle and the rear axle got a slightly wider 9,5 × 21 inches.
Equipped is the wheelset with slippers in the format 245 / 35 ZR21 and 285 / 30 ZR21 and by means of in-house lowering springs (-25 millimeters at the front & -20 millimeters at the back) it is ensured that there is only as much free space as necessary in the wheel arches. And on request, AC Schnitzer can also upgrade the interior of the i8 Roadster and the Coupe. Customizations are available in the form of new pedals, a cover for the iDrive switch made of aluminum and a set of floor mats.
