It couldn't be more blatant: Mercedes G500 with caterpillar drive!

Word has gotten around: If you need an extreme conversion for your 4×4, you go to delta4x4 – yourself caterpillar drives are no problem there. As soon as maximum traction is required, caterpillar drives represent the optimal solution: Due to their large contact surface on the ground, the vehicle sinks in much less on soft ground and the traction is also noticeably greater than with wheeled vehicles. This drive technology is unbeatable, especially in winter off-road use - as snow groomers and snowmobiles prove every day. So René Veraguth, head of the Swiss Caflisch Garage, comes to Unterumbach in southern Germany with a special order for delta4x4: A wealthy Almwirt in the Swiss mountains would like to have his Mercedes G converted to caterpillar drive in order to be able to raise his hut to almost 3.000 meters despite all the inclement weather to be able to go up.

And since the Graubünden mountains are among the most mountainous and impassable regions in Switzerland, delta4x4 should convert its G500 to caterpillar drive. But as is well known, tracked vehicles are quite unsuitable for road use in summer, which is why an uncomplicated seasonal downgrade to four All-terrain tires should be possible. No problem for delta4x4: In order to create space for the huge caterpillars under the fenders, the off-road specialists move the G500 by 20 centimetres higher. The connection to the vehicle is designed in such a way that the caterpillars can be easily removed for the summer. It's a good thing that the Swiss hut fan has a fat wallet: the caterpillars alone cost €50.000, including assembly, and the same amount is due again for homologation, tests, etc.

Lift including homologation

The delta4x4 lift – also including homologation – costs around €19.000. Add to that another €20.000 for conversions, such as roof rack and Frontguard as well as changing the tires to the large wheels for summer use. Nonetheless, nobody at delta500x4 asks why the Almwirt doesn't just get a snowcat in addition to his Mercedes G4. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
