Las Vegas – The Chevrolet Corvette, America's most treasured sports car, boasts not only an impressive C7/C8 present, but also a particularly memorable past that never fails to draw attention. And late next month, Las Vegas will become the auction hub for a plethora of custom tuned and restored Corvettes, old and new, to be offered at a major vehicle auction. And our personal highlight of the event is undoubtedly this spectacularly redesigned 1961 Chevrolet Corvette. It is a coveted first generation model, also known as the C1. The special feature of the classic athlete lies in the extensive modernization, which sets it apart from its peers and makes it truly unique.

The major chassis overhaul includes a new slate gray Art Morrison GT chassis with independent front and four-link rear suspension, plus high-quality chassis with adjustable shock absorbers and anti-roll bars, and a 9-inch rear axle. Schott rims in the sizes 18 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, covered with Michelin Pilot tires, give the Vette a particularly aggressive look and braking performance is ensured by a state-of-the-art Wilwood braking system. And the new brakes are also sorely needed!

Because the C1 is powered by a new LT4-V8 with a displacement of 6,2 liters, which delivers an impressive 650 hp and 880 NM of torque. It's all controlled by an 8-speed automatic (8L90E) with a tap shifter, giving the rider the control and feel of a manual shift. A high-gloss sports exhaust system acoustically rounds off the engine package. Incidentally, the body of the C1 is dipped in cool "Orion Silver", which offers a successful contrast to the interior.

many modern details in the cabin of the C1

The cabin features plenty of red leather thanks to Paul Atkins Interiors. An updated dash with Dakota Digital gauges and a Vintage Air conditioning system add further comfort. Other features include a Bluetooth-enabled Alpine sound system and an integrated reversing camera, power windows controlled by switches in the new center console, a power hood opener and a power handbrake.

The one-of-a-kind 1961 Corvette will be sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas in late June with no reserve price. A must have for any car enthusiast and collector who wants to own a piece of American sports car history. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report.
