Chevrolet Malibu as El Camino-Style Pickup Ute conversion!

The Chevrolet el Camino has now matured into a real legend. The exotic was manufactured from 1958 to 1960 and from 1964 to 1987 as a pickup with an open loading area by the American manufacturer General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. He belonged to the category of the so-called Utes and during the 90s, GM had with that El Camino concept even a new one based on the Caprice Kombi concept car planned. Unfortunately, it never went into series production, as the much more profitable SUV boom slowly but surely came to the fore. Ultimately, however, in 2008 they dared to try a two-seater pickup based on the Holden Ute. The G8 ST (officially called Sport Truck) was supposed to be Pontiac's first pickup truck in 2010, and GM's first coupe utility, start in North America as the official successor to the El Camino, which was discontinued in 87. But already at the beginning of 2009 Pontiac announced the news that the G8 ST will not come due to budget cuts.

Chevrolet Malibu pickup conversion

And now we have a car for you that can be used as a modern ute finally made it onto the street. It is a special conversion based on what is actually very boring Chevrolet Malibu. But this copy is definitely not boring. Because the one-off piece turned into a real commercial vehicle / pickup with a lot of effort rebuilt.

Based on the El Camino, a similar structure was implemented here that is now used for Guangzhou Auto Show 2021 celebrated its premiere. In the People's Republic of China, the sedan is known as the Malibu XL and so that you also know what it actually looks like, the production vehicle can be seen in the video and in the pictures. The four-door limo has the rear one Doors and the tailgate taken, one half of the roof is also completely gone. Instead there was one real usable loading area with a narrow Roll bar and with one wood floor.

Fake sidepipes and nobody knows why!

The vehicle shows up with a two-tone paintwork in blue and white and the attachments are in the form of bodykit with front splitter, fender flares all around, large side skirts, the rear diffuser and the small spoiler lip on the tailgate black Matt discontinued. Mighty ones have been turning in the fenders since the conversion Motorsport rims in bronze and black and of course a heavy lowering is missing Airride air suspension (Air tank on the loading area) not. There was more 550 turbo jet badges on the front fenders and the doors got one Chevelle lettering. The as Malibu XL 550T designated exotic even has a huge Sidepipe exhaust system installed behind the wheel. At the same time, however, the normal tailpipes can still be seen in the rear apron. Why? Because the sidepipe is only fake!

no V8 under the hood

And after the Fake exhaust system there is also a disenchantment under the hood. Because the engine is not a V8, but the normal one 2,0-liter four-cylinder code-named LSY. It continues to only drive the front wheels. And finally, the cabin has also changed a bit. There was a rather inappropriate one here Three-spoke sports steering wheel in the style of the old El Camino without airbag and also the Bucket seats without headrests are based on the past. And finally ... A successful project without the fake exhaust system and the unnecessary badges on the fenders and doors!
