Under power - Chevrolet shows K5 Blazer-E for the SEMA360!

With this K5, the US manufacturer Chevrolet is showing a way to continue to see classic vehicles on the road. And with an electric drive! What about that, the avowed K5 fan Michael Manousakis as the operator of the company “Morlock Motors” based in Peterslahr says? Built by Chevrolet Performance, this 1977 Chevrolet K5 Blazer is actually powered by electric power. And it was specially built for the SEMA360 show. This is the one planned because of Corona virtual Variant of the well-known auto show from Las Vegas. The K5 serves as a proof-of-concept and, in a sense, as a prime example to present the upcoming Electric Connect and Cruise package, which should go on sale in the second half of 2021.

EV electric motor with 200 PS (149 KW)

In order to transform the K5 into an SUV with EV drive, the factory-installed 6,55-liter V8 and the three-speed automatic were of course thrown out. The original fuel system and exhaust system are also no longer included. All of these components were replaced by an EV electric motor, which should provide 200 HP (149 KW) and 361 Newton meters of torque. For comparison: A 1977 K5 Blazer with a 400-cubic-inch V8 had 175 hp and 393 Nm of torque. The power comes from a 400 volt battery with 60 kilowatt hours from the Chevrolet Bolt, which is installed in the cargo area. Chevrolet Performance installed an electronically controlled four-speed automatic, there was an electric power steering and an electric pump for vacuum supply from the brake system.

The transfer case and the drive shafts as well as the axles from the Blazer were taken over with the conversion. Incidentally, the vehicle retained its classic instruments in the interior. Only a special control allows the fuel gauge to show the battery's charge level. The electric blazer is Chevy's statement on planned conversions for eCrate EVs. By the way, the technology was previously demonstrated with the eCOPO Camaro in 2018 and the E-10 pickup in 2019. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed of this if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
