Optical and technical avant-garde have always been the domain of the French automobile manufacturer Citroën. No matter whether with inexpensive small cars for the people, or with upscale luxury bodies that compete with the German premium manufacturers. Regardless of whether you want to own a 2CV or a Citroën DS, the models of the French carmaker have always polarized, and it has always been something special to drive a Citroën because you can do your best with these automobiles could express extravagant taste, and still can.

The latest model from the French, which is created in cooperation with the Chinese car manufacturer and PSA shareholder Dongfeng, is called C3L and is a compact crossover sedan that combines elements of an SUV with a classic notchback. These two body styles are by far the most popular on the world market, which is why Citroën probably thought of putting these elements together to form a cool notchback crossover. From the front, the C3L with its suggested underride protection, the large grill for Citroen standards and the large, friendly headlights, which are connected by a huge clip with the traditional double-angle emblem, look like a small SUV.

But now the big surprise comes from the side view. Despite its gray plastic components and the angular, flared wheel arches and the higher ground clearance of approximately 18 cm, this is not a conventional SUV, but a compact sedan with a crossover touch. The 4,49m long, 1,75m wide and 1,52m high model does not follow any conventions, but may set a new trend. The design is not entirely SUV-like either, because there is no roof rails, for example, which are standard on many SUV models, but are gradually disappearing from off-roaders due to aerodynamics. The rear, on the other hand, is very conventionally styled, with rectangular taillights and a naturally very high rear end. A little sportiness is suggested by the double-pipe exhaust on the right, which unfortunately fits a little inharmoniously into the underride protection at the rear.

The drive is taken over by the well-known 1,2-liter turbo gasoline engine with three cylinders, which in the new crossover sedan delivers 116 hp and 190 Nm of maximum torque. The power is transmitted via an automatic transmission with 6 speed steps and possibly also via a manual switch with 6 gears, but more detailed information is not yet available. The power and torque should be perfectly sufficient for the new compact sedan, which only weighs 1,2 tons, at least for everyday situations.
Little is known about the equipment and prices.
The equipment details and prices of the new Citroën C3L, which is expected to be presented at the Beijing Auto Show in April, are not yet known and will be announced shortly before the official market launch. And finally ... It will be exciting to see how the new Citroën C3L performs in the hotly contested segment of the compact sedan, and whether SUV customers can also be attracted by the new concept.
