Small series: Kode61 Birdcage as Maserati Tipo 61 "Birdcage" homage!

The Kode61 Birdcage is a new supercar created by Japanese designer Ken Okuyama (known for the legendary Ferrari Enzo) was designed and inspired by the Maserati Tipo 61 "Birdcage" race car. The car was unveiled at last weekend's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and is set to be a limited edition. The Maserati Tipo 61 was a legendary racing car of the late '50s and early '60s known for its innovative trellis construction, earning it the nickname "Birdcage". The car was light, fast and successful on the circuits, including with famous driver Stirling Moss at the wheel. The Kode61 Birdcage takes up some design elements of the historical model, such as the open body without roof and windshield, the curved fenders, the sharp front and rear parts and the three-spoke light-alloy wheels with MC20 optics.

But the Kode61 is also inspired by the Maserati Birdcage 75th concept from 2005. The Kode61 has a modern touch to it. In this regard, the narrow LED lights, the black accents on the air intakes and the diffuser and the cool half-wing doors are worth mentioning. Inside, too, a retro style dominates, accentuated with shiny elements, an analogue instrument cluster, an open-gate manual shifter and a display for the passenger. Details of the engine have not yet been officially announced, but the high twin exhausts and the large air intakes indicate a combustion engine with plenty of steam. It's possible that the Kode61 Birdcage will use an existing supercar platform and engine under the bespoke body. Maybe the Ferrari Monza SP2?

The best: The Kode61 Birdcage two-seater is not just a design study, but according to Ken Okuyama in limited edition handcrafted at its factory in Yamagata, Japan. The price has not yet been announced, but one can already assume that the price for the exclusive vehicle will be particularly high. Making its debut in the concept car category at this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the Kode61 Birdcage was the first Japanese carrozzeria and perhaps a milestone in that regard.
