KAMManufaktur Porsche 912C as a four-cylinder restomod!

There are so many companies that restore and modify vintage Porsches that it's hard to keep track. But the KAM Manufactory stays in our heads. The company comes from Budapest in Hungary and not from Germany, Great Britain or America. And the biggest difference is that the focus is on the four-cylinder 912 instead of its big brother, the 911. The company has already shown us what KAMM can make possible in September 2022 with a restored 912c prototype. But as of now, the tuner is ready to start production, which has a few differences from the version from back then, including a big jump in power, electronic fuel injection and an option for a full carbon body.

KAMManufaktur Porsche 912C

The old 912, sold between 1965 and 1969, was intended to fill the gap left by the 911 stepping in to replace the 356. However, the 912 had a six-cylinder in the rear and was therefore significantly more expensive. So Porsche brought out the 911. It combined the 89's bodywork with the 1,6's simple 356 hp 2,0-litre engine. But Kamm's version is expanded to 170-litres and does more than twice as much. The prototype was supposed to deliver around 215 hp and 187 Nm back then, but that has now increased to 228 hp and XNUMX Nm.

The performance data is roughly the same as that specified by Porsche for a 911 2.4S from 1972. But the beauty of the 912, and of this conversion in particular, is how much less mass the engine has to move. KAMM states a weight of only 750 kg, which makes the conversion about half as heavy as a basic model of the 911 Carrera type 992. Although the engine in the Restomod has become significantly more aggressive, the steering has a new 2,5, 1,7 rev kit reassures. With that, the old XNUMX-revolution unit is history. And KAMM says the ratios of the five-speed dogleg manual gearbox have also been adjusted to improve comfort.

it's headed toward $400.000

However, one of the other big changes is the price, which is now around €360.000 if KAMM has to buy the donor car. If you bring the 912 with you, then “only” €320.000 will be due. Last fall, the price was estimated at around €325.000, including the donor vehicle. And if you opt for a carbon body or an optional racing version of the 2,0-liter engine, then almost €400.000 is even feasible.

According to KAMM, despite the high costs for 2023, there are only two free production slots. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report.
