CUPRA presents three new electric models (from left): CUPRA Tavascan*, CUPRA Terramar* and CUPRA UrbanRebel*

CUPRA revealed to the public its exciting plans for the future - with new heroes for a new era. To start the next chapter, CUPRA returned to the place where it all began four years ago: Terramar (Sitges). To date, the brand has delivered almost 200.000 vehicles, with sales increasing from 430 million euros in 2018 to almost 2,2 billion euros in 2021 - far exceeding all expectations. This year, CUPRA wants to double its sales and turnover as well as its global network of CUPRA Masters and CUPRA City garages.

three new electric models

  • Three new electric models: CUPRA Terramar*, CUPRA Tavascan* and CUPRA UrbanRebel*
  • The goals of CUPRA: 500.000 vehicles sold per year, global expansion into new markets and penetration into new segments
  • Outlook on future updates of the current model range

By 2025, CUPRA will usher in a new era with three new electric models – CUPRA Terramar*, CUPRA Tavascan* and CUPRA UrbanRebel* – and the renewal of the current model range.

“Tonight (07.06.2022/2025/XNUMX) we are showing the full range of CUPRA’s next generation of heroes, which will be released by XNUMX”, announced CUPRA CEO Wayne Griffiths. “Our goal is to deliver 500.000 cars per year in the medium term and to penetrate both new markets and new segments with our international expansion strategy. The CUPRA Tribe will do everything to make this happen. In doing so, we rely on our employees. Because they are what make the brand.”

The Unstoppable Impulse Event took place in Terramar (Sitges), southwest of Barcelona. In addition to numerous international media representatives, the guests included representatives of institutions, partners and CUPRA brand ambassadors such as Alexia Putellas, who won the Ballon d'Or and was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2021. Members of the Volkswagen Group and the Porsche and Piëch families also attended the event.

The incredible journey of CUPRA

Driven by a few enthusiasts who wanted to challenge the status quo, CUPRA was founded in 2018 with the goal of reinventing modern sportiness. The first vehicle to embody the ambition and character of the Challenger brand was the CUPRA Ateca - a unique model in its segment. Two years later, the brand launched the CUPRA Leon. It was the brand's first model with an extensive range of powerful engines and is CUPRA's first electric model thanks to its high-performance plug-in hybrid engine.

CUPRA Formentor as a milestone

It was followed by the brand's first independently developed model, the CUPRA Formentor. The crossover SUV has been a huge success with almost 100.000 models delivered to date and is now the company's best-selling car. Then came the CUPRA Born - the first fully electric car and the perfect combination of electrification and performance.

However, the vehicles are only part of the story. One of the key elements to CUPRA's success is the CUPRA Tribe. “Day by day, the CUPRA Tribe is evolving the essence of our brand: disruptive attitude, rebellious spirit and unconventional thinking”, said Antonino Labate, Director of Strategy, Business Development and Operations at CUPRA. “Today we introduce the newest member of the Tribe: TV Boy. With his rebellious spirit, he breaks boundaries to inspire the next generation with his art.”

CUPRA Terramar: the brand's first electrified SUV

CUPRA looks to the future and enters a new era with new heroes. With the plug-in hybrid technology, CUPRA has shown that electrification is part of the brand's DNA. The vehicles that are equipped with this technology now make up a large part of the range. But CUPRA goes one step further: by 2024, the range of plug-in hybrid models is to be expanded again and include options with longer ranges.

New to the team is the CUPRA Terramar - a sporty SUV that pays homage to Terramar (Sitges), a municipality in the Spanish region of Catalonia, around 36 kilometers south-west of Barcelona. The CUPRA Terramar combines sweeping and powerful proportions with a striking design. With this emotional, sporty and electric SUV, the company will penetrate higher price segments of the SUV segment, the fastest growing segment in Europe. The CUPRA Terramar is produced at the Audi plant in Győr, Hungary.

The CUPRA Terramar will be available with different combustion engines as well as with a new generation of plug-in hybrid drives. The electric range is around 100 kilometers. The range of e-HYBRID models focuses on performance and contemporary sportiness. These models are part of a larger journey as CUPRA advances the electrification revolution.

“Everything started for CUPRA in Terramar. Our new sporty hybrid SUV perfectly combines lively and powerful proportions. It has a long, distinctive bonnet, while the shark nose stands for power and a will to win.", explained Jorge Díez, head of design at CUPRA. “The driver-oriented interior concept offers a unique experience with the latest technology. All in all a 4,5 meter SUV with CUPRA DNA ready to shake up one of the most competitive segments.”

CUPRA Tavascan: The dream comes true

The next stage on this journey is the CUPRA Tavascan. The vehicle embodies CUPRA's electric vision and will remain faithful to the 2019 concept vehicle. Some design elements are reminiscent of the CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E concept 2021. However, the CUPRA Tavascan not only embodies the vision of contemporary electrification, but will also make the brand more global and open up new markets for CUPRA. It will come onto the market in 2024.

CUPRA UrbanRebel: challenging conventions and arousing emotions

In 2025, CUPRA will launch the UrbanRebel - the urban e-car from the Challenger brand. A vehicle with which CUPRA redefines its limits. The UrbanRebel stands for emotion and was designed and developed for a more rebellious electric world. The Volkswagen Group's "MEB Small" platform is used for the front-wheel drive urban e-car in order to develop an emotional, urban performance vehicle on it.

“The CUPRA UrbanRebel will be the biggest project for our company in the coming years as it is key to our transformation to an all-electric brand. We are leading the development of this cluster, the family of vehicles that will democratize sustainable urban mobility. We are doing preliminary work for various brands within the Volkswagen Group.", said Werner Tietz, Chief Research and Development Officer at CUPRA.

The 4,03 meter long car is a sustainability hero that pushes the boundaries of what is possible through the use of advanced recycled polymers and bio-based materials, delivering an environmentally conscious vehicle. By combining 3D printing and 3D knitting processes with parametric design, performance and value are increased. The lightweight construction of both the exterior and the interior contributes to the fact that the 226 hp (166 kW) electric motor and the battery pack enable the urban e-car to accelerate to 6,9 km/h in just 100 seconds and give it a range of up to to 440 kilometers (range version).

Designed and developed in Barcelona, the CUPRA UrbanRebel will be launched in 2025. Production is planned in Martorell once the Spanish government's PERTE support program for the electric and connected vehicle is approved.

“The UrbanRebel is more than just a car for CUPRA. It is the model that will democratize urban electric mobility. Emotional, sexy, fun to drive and affordable at the same time. With it, we're proving that electric cars don't have to be boring. It is the entry-level model for the next generation in our brand”, Wayne Griffiths shared during the Impulse event.

A common goal

With the "Future: Fast Forward" project, the company has brought together a group of 62 national and international partners, all with the goal of making Spain a European hub for electromobility. Just a few weeks ago, the company, together with the Volkswagen Group and the partners of "Future: Fast Forward", presented a project to mobilize ten billion euros for the electrification of Spain. This is the largest single industrial investment in Spain's history.

“We know exactly where we want to be and I can promise you that the future will not be boring. Every single model we will launch will take us a step further in our journey”, Wayne Griffiths let know. “We will stay true to ourselves and be authentic, that is the spirit of the CUPRA Tribe. We do that at the CUPRA Kind of like we've always done it. The future is electric and the future is CUPRA.” During the impulse event, CUPRA also gave an outlook on the future versions of the current series (CUPRA Leon, CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Born), which are to be renewed by 2025.
