Homage to the adventurous spirit and suitability for expeditions of the classic Land Rover Defender: with a strictly limited edition of 25 vehicles of the Defender Works V8 Trophy, the specialists at Land Rover Classic are paying homage to the great legacy of the robust off-road vehicle, which has covered practically every corner of the world over the course of seven decades conquered and stood by countless adventurers and scientists as a practical and reliable vehicle. An equally exclusive event awaits the owners of the new Defender Works V8 Trophy extra edition: in the course of 2021 they will be invited to the infamous Eastnor Castle test site, where an extraordinary adventure event will take place.

The new special edition Defender Works V8 Trophy is based on the concept of the Defender Works V8, which Land Rover Classic developed between 2012 and 2016. Classic Defender vehicles are completely overhauled, rebuilt and equipped with technology that is true to the original. The Edition Defender Works V8 Trophy, for example, has a 5,0-liter V8 petrol engine with 298 kW (405 hp) and a maximum torque of 515 Nm. This power is transmitted to the four wheels with the help of a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, while the specialists from Land Rover Classic also provided comprehensive updates to the chassis, steering and brakes. In addition, there are a number of other optimizations that are specifically tailored to off-road use.

25 copies of the Defender Works V8 Trophy

Only 25 copies of the Defender Works V8 Trophy will be available worldwide, optionally as body variants 90 or 110 Station Wagon - but all painted in the exclusive color Eastnor Yellow and fitted with matching 16-inch steel rims. Contrasting elements in Narvik Black also set attractive accents on the body: for example on the wheel arches, on the bonnet and tailgate. The handcrafted vehicles also have LED headlights and a classic Heritage grille. Every model is unique thanks to special Land Rover Trophy logos and personalized badges that prove participation in the adventure event at Eastnor Castle.

The special edition Defender Works V8 Trophy was designed with a view to the toughest requirements in the field and over extremely long distances. The Land Rover Classic engineers implemented an all-terrain kit that includes a front winch, multi-point expedition roll cage, roof rack, underbody protection, snorkel, additional LED headlights and mud-terrain tires.

Full leather interior and Recaro sports seats

In the interior, the Defender Works V8 Trophy presents a full leather interior with black Windsor leather covers on Recaro sports seats, which is rounded off with details such as yellow contrasting stitching and a Land Rover Trophy dial created by the watch manufacturer Elliot Brown. The classic infotainment system developed by Land Rover Classic with integrated navigation and mobile device connectivity guarantees the best connections.

Depending on the pandemic, Land Rover is planning an exclusive adventure event for the owners of the 2021 Defender Works V25 Trophy in the course of 8. The venue for the event will be Eastnor Castle in the UK's Land Rover homeland: the spiritual home of the development, training and testing capacities of the 4 × 4 specialist. As part of the planned three-day event, the new owners will take over the steering wheels in their Defender Works V8 Trophy for the first time.

The Land Rover Defender was always more than just a car. Its technical abilities as well as its suitability for expeditions, long distance driving and off-road competitions have given the Defender the reputation of being able to overcome practically anything. The Land Rover Trophy takes this great legacy and transfers it to a new generation of adventurers.

Experiences and adventure are a key part of Land Rover Classic's DNA. We developed our concept based on feedback from our customers. They want to write their own story - including the scars that inevitably develop on their Works V8 Trophy and the individual patina. In addition, customers want to talk to like-minded Defender enthusiasts around the campfire.

“We are looking forward to an exciting and unforgettable event, shaped by community and team spirit, which will carry the history of the Land Rover Trophy for many years. When the silhouettes of the vehicles appear on the hills of Eastnor, instantly recognizable as Land Rover, it will be a special moment of adventure. DAN PINK | DIRECTOR LAND ROVER CLASSIC

If desired, the new owners of the Defender Works V8 Trophy can book individual lessons from specialized instructors as part of the adventure event. This gives you a unique opportunity to acquire driving techniques and skills for extreme situations in your own model. This knowledge must then be proven in competition. Numerous prizes await the participants as well as a top prize that is currently still secret.

Jessica Hawkins as the Land Rover Brand Ambassador

To mark the start of the Defender Works V8 Trophy, Land Rover has produced a video in which several familiar faces from the British off-road vehicle brand's history are involved. Jessica Hawkins is one of them: the racing driver and stunt woman acts as a Land Rover brand ambassador. Participants in the legendary Camel Trophy, such as that of the 1989 winner, Bob Ives, also appear in the film. Some of these experts will be on hand at the Land Rover Trophy Event at Eastnor Castle to share their knowledge and skills with guests.

The adventure event is also enriched and supported by the new Land Rover Defender and by brand partners such as Elliot Brown, Fat Face or Musso, who have developed suitable products especially for the Defender Works V8 Trophy customers.

THE STORY OF THE LAND ROVER DEFENDER V8

  • The integration of V8 engines in the Land Rover Defender and its predecessors began in 1979 with the Series III Stage 1 V8: the 3,5-liter carburettor gasoline engine from Rover production developed 67 kW (91 hp).
  • The Land Rover 110 from 1983 and the Land Rover 90 from 1984 also used the same Rover V8 - although it initially got 84 kW (115 hp) from the 3,5 liter displacement, and from 1987 even 101 kW (137 hp) ).
  • Defender 1992 and 90 variants with a 110-liter injection version of the Rover V3,9, which delivered 8 kW (136 hp) to the drive wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission, appeared exclusively for the North American market in 184.
  • In 1998, for the 50th anniversary of Defender, a special model appeared with the 142 kW (193 hp) 4,0-liter injection V8 from the second generation of the Range Rover and a four-speed automatic.
  • The Defender Works V2018 with a 8-liter naturally aspirated engine made its debut in 5,0: the first official Land Rover Defender with a V8 engine since 1998.
