2020 Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 Bare Naked Carbon Edition

With the long-planned Bare Naked Carbon Edition (BNCE) Donkervoort Automobielen has dropped the covers on its D8 GTO-JD70. The Bare Naked Carbon Edition is available with transparent or colored paintwork. It gives the JD70 a breathtakingly artistic texture and underlines the precision of Donkervoort's carbon expertise, while at the same time making the 700 kg car several kilograms lighter. JD70s with BNCE technology are available in a raw, bare carbon look or with a colored finish in matt or polished finish. The JD70 is the first production vehicle in the world with 2 G acceleration in the curve, developed as a tribute to company founder Joop Donkervoort on the occasion of his 70th birthday. However, the BNCE was developed to facilitate the individual design of the JD70 built by Donkervoort.

many colors are possible

Behind the BNCE is the idea: Customers should be able to add color accents to their car beyond the usual color palette. "The carbon fabric remains the same“Explains Denis Donkervoort, managing director of Donkervoort Automobielen. "We achieve the appearance of the color in the fiber with specially developed dyes, which we mix in the clear coat ". "We can also match the colored carbon parts in the interior to the outer body“, He confirms. More than 95 percent of the JD70 standard body is made of carbon fiber, and with the BNCE program launched in 2018, owners can see what they paid for. The body of the JD70 is made of a carbon fiber / kevlar fabric, and even the fenders are made of carbon fiber / kevlar.

BNCE manufactured on customer request

The entire front design is now new compared to the GTO-40, all parts with ventilation openings are hexagonal and made of 3D-printed carbon fibers. The BNCE, developed at the request of a customer in 2018, is available in a high-gloss or matt version. Donkervoort has already delivered several cars with the BNCE body to enthusiastic connoisseurs, and in future the BNCE will be available in larger numbers. Donkervoort offers its customers exposed carbon at four levels, from the relatively subtle carbon accents of the exposed carbon upgrade to the artistically uncompromising full package of the full exposed carbon option.

  • Exposed carbon upgrade: The entry into the world of visible carbon shows exposed carbon (in matt or glossy paint) on the side panels, the fenders on the engine compartment, the bonnet hood, the triangular side air cowls and in the entire interior.
  • Hypercar Carbon Weave for Carbon Upgrade Pack: It saves weight thanks to a different structure of the fiber fabric.
  • Full exposed carbon upgrade: This shows the entire vehicle in exposed carbon, including the exhaust cover. This significantly reduces the weight.
  • Full-Exposed Colored Carbon: Donkervoort delivers the complete car in colored carbon, including the side exhaust cover. It is an upgrade from the Full Exposed-Carbon option.

Colors for the versions with fully exposed colored carbon are available on request, so far there are green, red, blue, gold and gray, and metallic can also be added.

Hypercar killer Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70

The legendary hypercar killer Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 breaks the 2-G barrier and delivers the amazing cornering behavior that corresponds to its massive acceleration. The standard trim of the JD70 with standard Nankang tires brings it to corners with more than 2 G lateral acceleration and more than 1 G straight acceleration. The JD70 is a supercar for those who yearn for sharpened senses and the purity of unfiltered driving experiences. The JD70 is designed so that its drivers can build an unshakable bond with their machines. In hectic city traffic it drives just as comfortably as on the open country road. "The JD70 goes beyond normal standards for acceleration and braking - we now expect G-forces. However, the car is still a pure driver machine like no other on the market“Says Denis Donkervoort, managing director of Donkervoort Automobielen. "The JD70 is the distillate of everything we know and what we have learned on the road and on the racetrack, from track days, from conversations with customers and, of course, from Joop's own ideas of what a supercar should be for its driver.“The D8 GTO-JD70 is available from 163.636,36 euros (before taxes).

full power with constant control

The most powerful 2,5-liter inline five-cylinder engine ever built by Donkervoort delivers 415 hp (310 kW) of power and 520 Nm of torque. The engine delivers its peak torque from 1750 rpm and keeps it up to 6350 rpm - at this point in the speed range, most cars achieve their peak performance. Its layout corresponds to that of the previous D8 GTO-40. Technically, he is familiar enough to appeal to loyal Donkervoort fans, while at the same time offering enough raw performance and character to win new customers. The exhaust, equipped with a new catalytic converter system, emerges from the side in front of the rear wheels. This saves weight thanks to shorter tube lengths, and it is also tuned to bring an even more emotional engine sound to the car.

It has a finely graduated five-speed manual transmission that drives a specially developed limited slip differential on the rear axle. The biggest change to the powertrain was the extension of the final ratio from 3,63: 1 to 3,31: 1 to take advantage of the stronger engine power in the lower speed range and to give the car legs on the highway. The new final drive ratio improves fuel economy, while the JD70 has a WLTP CO2 emissions of only 198 grams per kilometer. The heart of the JD70 is a hybrid chassis technology that combines a tubular steel lead frame with carbon fibers for more strength and aluminum to save weight in less critical areas. The broad gauge suspension system has a double wishbone and newly developed, three-way adjustable Intrax shock absorbers on every corner. The coil springs are custom-made for Donkervoort, and the front and rear stabilizers are adjustable, as is the variable traction control system.

It has 310 mm x 24 mm Tarox brake discs with a wave pattern and six-piston monoblock brake calipers at the front and smaller discs (285 mm x 24 mm) with a wave pattern as well as a single-piston brake caliper construction at the rear. One of the most important changes was the switch from Toyo to Nankang as a tire supplier for original equipment. The Nankang rubber compound is harder and ensures a longer tire life, but offers more grip in the middle of the curve and helps the JD70 beyond the 2G limit. The front tires are size 235/45 17, at the rear tires size 245/40 18 are used. The front tires nestle around forged 8 x 17 ″ alloy wheels, while larger 9 x 18 ″ wheels are used at the rear. Super light rims made of carbon fiber are a factory option. If we receive more information in a timely manner, there is of course an update for this report.
