Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 - the flying Dutchman for the racetrack.

As soon as one thinks of puristic roadsters like a Lotus Super Seven, the first thing that comes to mind is various British small series manufacturers. No matter if it is Caterham or Westfield, these brands have an excellent reputation among car enthusiasts. But not only cheese and tomatoes come from the Netherlands, but also, for example, puristic super athletes from the company Donkervoort, which are ideal as a track tool for the racetrack. The latest creation by the Dutch sports car manufacturer is called Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70, the JD70 standing for the 70th birthday of company founder Joop Donkervoort. This super sports car is also the first production vehicle to break the magical mark of 2g lateral acceleration and thus achieve crazy cornering speeds that you would never have dared to dream of before. Donkervoort seems to have overridden the driving physics, since such centrifugal forces are usually reserved for fairground rides.

Classic design and pure lightweight construction.

There is not much to say about the design of the extreme sports car, except that the lightweight construction and the reduction to the essentials determine the character of the racing car. 3,84 m long, 1,85 m wide, but only 1,05 m high is the extremist among sports cars, crouching so low above the ground that you can almost miss it in an SUV when turning, if you are not careful. On request, it is even possible to leave the body, which consists of more than 95 percent carbon fiber, unpainted, so that the bare carbon is revealed. And the car has sidepipes, a real rarity in today's automobile construction, which we can only think of quickly on the G63 AMG. This made it possible for the aerodynamics experts at Donkervoort to completely redesign the stern compared to its civilian brothers. Among other things, a second diffuser was installed, which generates 80 kilograms of downward pressure.

Top speed crazy 280 km / h

Another advantage of the side pipes is a higher top speed, which is achieved by a longer axle ratio, and is now at 280 km / h without the Donky losing sprint performance. On the whole, the Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 still contains the genes of the Lotus Super Seven, which are also clearly visible in the cigar-shaped design of the body with the free-standing wheels, and which transport the probably unique body shape into the new decade without doing so to look as retro and quirky as a Caterham or a Westfield. Another highlight of the car are the doors that open upwards, which offer the big show, especially when standing, to make it clear to passers-by that this is not an ordinary car, but a super sports car made of the purest water.

The interior is puristic and very clearly designed.

With a fun grenade like a Donkervoort, the car lover naturally expects a puristic cockpit, which invites you to take a seat and start driving. Nobody will be disappointed in the D8 GTO-JD70, because the cockpit is very puristic, and the five-speed manual transmission from Tremec, which has an intermediate gas function and an automatic limited slip differential, helps to ensure that the Donky doesn't get too much comfort would not look good on such an automobile at all.

The power to weight ratio is absolutely breathtaking.

Incidentally, it is powered by a special endurance race variant of the 2,5-liter turbo gasoline engine with five cylinders, which is legendary in Audi circles, and in this expansion stage the unit generates 415 hp and 560 Newton meters of maximum torque. Coupled with an empty weight of only 670 kg, the Donkervoort becomes an absolute surface-to-surface missile. The power-to-weight ratio is an incredible 1,61 kg / PS, which means that the Dutchman plays in a league with real hypercars. With the already mentioned top speed of 280 km / h it has to let most super sports cars pass, but this car is not trimmed for maximum top speed, but rather impresses with its incredible lateral dynamics, which reaches its peak through the aforementioned 2g lateral acceleration.

only an economical 70 pieces are built

Joop Donkervoort, the founder of the company, is 70 years old, and thanks to every year the founder of the company leaves a car in the factory in the Netherlands. The prices for the pleasure start at 163.636,36 euros, plus taxes. Such a car is of course an absolute dream, and it should not be long before all copies of the frenzied Dutchman are sold out.
