The diverse range of SUVs has long been a cornerstone of the BMW model range. The origin of the success lies with the X5, whose first generation (E53) in 1999 marked the start of the Munich company in the vehicle class. We are now three generations further, and the SUV not only received the stylish coupé twin X6 in 2008, but also several smaller siblings and even a bigger brother. Although the current X5 and X6 are already quite powerful in the production version, a performance boost can't hurt, of course. DTE Systems therefore offers performance upgrades with the additional PowerControl control unit for almost all drive variants, such as for the X5 xDrive40i and X6 M50i models.
Chip tuning by DTE
The M50i is the strongest model variant among the genuine M top versions. Under the hood is a 4,4 liter turbo V8 with 530 PS & 750 Nm. The PowerControl RX enables an additional 90 PS & 80 Nm. As a result, the M50i reaches the performance ranges of the X6 M & X5 M. The xDrive40i is more down-to-earth and has a 3,0-liter turbocharged straight-six with 340 PS & 450 Nm. With the PowerControl box, DTE Systems achieves an increase of 68 hp and also 80 Nm. Despite the increased performance, DTE promises a reduction in consumption in both cases: by up to 50 percent for the M15i and by up to 40 or up to 10 percent for the xDrive15i, depending on the selected PowerControl or the optional PowerControl X version.
Additionally optional PedalBox+
Like the RX version, the latter offers not only two driving programs, each with seven levels, but also the efficiency mode as a third option. Other advantages of the more expensive box compared to the basic version are the app control, the individually configurable warm-up timer and the so-called sports instruments.
In both cases, the assembly takes place in the Plug and play procedure with a vehicle-specific wiring harness. As a result, various engine parameters are read out and optimized via several channels. As a supplement to the chip tuning box, DTE has the optional PedalBox+ in its range, a module for optimizing the electronic accelerator pedal.
