What is Tuning really about? Surely you can still come to the February of this year presented Mercedes AMG GT R from EDO Competition recall. An increase in performance of the M 178 DE 40 AL biturbo V8 from 585 PS & 700 NM to 660 PS & 780 NM torque, a subtle lowering and a roaring sports exhaust system ensure significantly more performance, according to tuner EDO. But is that really true? Or does the extra power in the wheel house evaporate? EDO wanted to know about it and competed with the modified AMG GT R at the Sachsenring during an event for a time measurement. Incidentally, the performance of the Stuttgart is rich 700 PS which we were not aware of in February.
The performance is linked to the different gears. For example, 660 hp are used from first to fifth gear, while sixth gear can boast 680 hp and the last gear delivers 700 hp. There is a maximum of a huge 850 NM torque at just under 2000 rpm. issue. Specifically, that means 115 PS & 150 Nm more and all of this using chip tuning. AMG works driver Adam Christodoulou (4 wins in the 24-hour race) control the GT R and he had despite Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires to complain about traction problems. The Cup 2 tire comes street legal, but is designed specifically for the racetrack.
It took only three laps for the slippers to look like slicks. Adam Christodoulou pushed this particularly to the significantly increased extra power which shaves radically down at high speeds due to the strong torque the rubbers. And although the conditions were not the most optimal, there was a time of at the end 1: 29,77 minutes, That's a whopping 4,01 seconds faster compared to the reference vehicle in the form of the GAD Motors AMG C63 Black Series for this discipline 1: 33,78 min. needed.
This means that you are now a good 4 seconds faster than the previous class record, and by the way, EDO also won the title of fastest Mercedes in the tuning class. The ultimate proof of what a modified car can achieve compared to the series. Not only is the test bench glowing, but the extra power really hits the road.
