Slowly but surely it solves E-Motor the good old combustion engine. There are more and more electric drives in new ones Restomod projects built in to make the old classics fit for the future. Now the US tuner Lingenfelter, in cooperation with Chevrolet, has created this project, which is probably unique to date, which Electric Connect and Cruise eCrate Package that comes from General Motors. It has never been used in any Chevrolet El Camino (Spanish for “the way”). Lingenfelter has done pioneering work on the classic Ute and made him the first tuning company with a eCrate engine fitted. And with the switch to electric drive, Lingenfelter also changed the spelling of El Camino eLcamino. Incidentally, the engine was specially designed for subsequent installation in Electromod projects Developed so that historic automobiles do not run the risk of disappearing from road traffic, as they can no longer meet the increasingly strict emission regulations.

Very subtle tuning on the exterior!

From the outside, you can tell that the oldie is lavish and professional restauriert was, but the El Camino does not have great changes to the bodywork, as you can see in many Restomod projects. Except for modern ones Rims, which shine with a deep bed look and black finish, remained the body series.

Not even the chassis has been modified and the special Chevy has the same ground clearance as the production model. Thus, the timeless and elegant look of the legendary Ute is preserved and despite the conversion to electric drive, it can still inspire many classic car fans. Of course there are some changes due to the drive, such as the elimination of the Exhaust System, or the exchange of Tank and tank cap in favor of one charging socket. In contrast to the Chevrolet, other, gasoline-powered conversions from Lingenfelter are often optically brushed to riot, and signal to the environment that these are no longer series vehicles.

With the change of drive, the tuning philosophy was also changed a bit in order to appeal to a different clientele who do not value raucous optics and brutal performance, but rather environmentally friendly want to be on the road and still enjoy classic automobiles.

eCrate drive is believed to have an output of 200 hp

If you can believe the people in charge at Lingenfelter, the El Camino has the same drive (from the Chevrolet Bolt) like in 1977 K5 e-blazer, which was presented at last year's SEMA, which, as is well known, only took place online due to the Corona crisis.

The electric engine generates 200 PS and 360 Newtonmeter maximum torque, which is already present immediately after the start, since an electric motor does not need any speed to build up torque. Equipped in this way, the performance of the unit should be one 60 kWh battery brings along, in combination with the electronically controlled four-speed automaticnot be bad.

Our Conclusion to the Chevrolet El Camino with electric drive:

An interesting project that could show the future in terms of restomods. However, it would be important for GM to decide to deliver larger batteries with the eCrate engines, because we believe that 60 kWh is not sufficient for everyday use.
