Homage to the original 911! Exclusive Porsche XNUMX Carrera S!

A tribute to the first 911 in Australia! The story of the original 911 in Australia served as inspiration for two new 911 Carrera S models from the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. The two special editions were created jointly by the Porsche Center Melbourne and the Porsche Center Sydney South. They will be presented in the coming months along with the original 1965 that caused a sensation in Australia in XNUMX. "We had decided to reissue the 911 from 1965 with all its details for 2020”Explains Dean Williams, New Vehicle Sales Manager at the Porsche Center Melbourne. The original 1964 was delivered in XNUMX by the Australian Porsche dealer Norman Hamilton to the farmer Ron Angas in Adelaide. Even back then, long before the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur was founded, the proud new owner gave a lot of thought to the vehicle's specifications.

"It is fascinating that more than 55 years after the original 911 was delivered to Mr. Angas, we can take up some of the specifications in the modern version. That shows how timeless the XNUMX is“, Emphasizes Lee Hallett, General Sales Manager of the Porsche Center Sydney South. It also underlines that the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur offers almost every imaginable possibility of individual design thanks to the highest quality materials, modern manufacturing processes and great attention to detail. Angas' Porsche had a 5-speed manual transmission, while the current new editions each have an 8-speed automatic, but the visual details clearly show which car these special editions come from.

911 from 1965 was painted in stone gray

The 911 from 1965 was painted stone gray. The current equivalent in the 992 series color palette is chalk. In addition, the two Carrera S models come up with a matching finish on the louvres on the rear bonnet and 20/21-inch wheels in Carrera Exclusive Design, which, just like the historical model, have brake calipers in contrasting black. Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur SportDesign side skirts, painted exterior mirrors and high-gloss trim strips round off the color concept of the special editions. Inside, the historic 911 is wrapped in green leather, which contrasts with the standard yellow maple wood paneling on the dashboard and the matching wooden-framed steering wheel, thus perfectly reflecting the "British" look of the instrumentation.

In the interior of the new interpretations, there is agave green leather with contrasting chalk stitching and matching agave green seat belts. Unlike the original, the new owners can look forward to 14-way electrically adjustable sports seats with memory function and the Porsche crest embossed in the headrests. The entrance panels made of brushed aluminum in dark silver are illuminated and bear the individual lettering "1965 Reimagined". Both 992 992s are equipped with an interior package made from environmentally friendly dark Paldao. By combining the original elements of the original XNUMX with the high-tech possibilities of our time, the spirit of the XNUMX ancestor is to be awakened to new life in this project. The result is a detailed and at the same time very modern interpretation.

The first Porsche 911 in Australia

When Ron Angas put 1964 Australian pounds on the table for a new six-cylinder Porsche in 2.000, the order form read “901”. But when the sports car arrived at Angas' farm in Barossa Valley, the number 911 was on the badge - as a result of the now famous trademark dispute between Porsche and Peugeot. It didn't bother the new owner: This is how the black and white number plate with the digits “119”, which had already been used for several vehicles of the Angas family over the years, would be reflected in the model name of the newest addition.

Even if the car was equipped with a modified damper (its output was then determined to be 134 PS (100 kW) - four PS more than in series production), the residents have not forgotten the sensation the 911 caused when it started in September In 1965 drove through the neighboring town for the first time. Sealed beam headlights were installed outside to illuminate the back streets of Angaston, where the unmistakable rattle of the air-cooled 6-cylinder boxer engine could now be heard more and more between Lyndoch and Nuriootpa. In addition, the car featured colored Porsche crests on the hub caps.

Angas regularly competed at the Collingrove Hillclimb with his 911, where Alan Hamilton, the son of the then Porsche dealer Norman Hamilton, later won the first national motorsport title for Porsche when he was in a mountain pyder with the 2-liter engine a Porsche 906 with six cylinders won the Australian Hillclimb Championship in October 1966. When Angas sold the 911 in February 1969 - to his friend, the architect Roy Wilson - he had covered 87.000 kilometers with it.

The current owner of the car, Porsche enthusiast Stewart Kay from Adelaide, first saw the 911 when he interviewed Wilson for a university magazine in the late 80s. It was half-hidden in the shadow of the Wilson garage, but Kay realized that the car looked very much like a vehicle he'd read about in an English magazine. It was in the Porsche Museum, and Kay recalled being referred to as "the oldest known 911".

When he read the article again later, he was surprised to find that the car in the museum had the chassis number 302 503 - and therefore exactly 1.000 vehicles were built later than the one he had just seen. He called Porsche Cars Australia and got confirmation that the 911 in Wilson's garage was indeed one of the first right-hand drive examples ever built.

He urged Wilson to buy the car from him, but initially without success. It wasn't until 1992 that he received a call and Wilson asked: “Still interested in the 911?” They quickly agreed on a price and the vehicle, including original keys, original operating instructions, maintenance books and more than 136.000 kilometers on the display, made a new owner very happy for the third time.

The 911 is still in its extraordinary original condition in Kay's possession. It can usually be seen in a museum at The Bend Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend, South Australia. But now it is being presented together with its new “offspring” at the two Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur partners of Porsche Australia: the Porsche Center Sydney South and the Porsche Center Melbourne.
