Look here, small, cute and runs on electricity: the Fiat Topolino will shake up the lowest level of the model range from 2023. Battery life may not rank among the best, but neither does the price. In 2023, after a break of almost seven decades, the Fiat Topolino proudly steps back onto the stage. Incidentally, it's easy to forget that the car was then known as the Fiat 500 and marked the start of the legendary range. The new edition pays homage to the classic 500, which is currently available in both petrol and electric versions. But the technology underneath is not really fresh: the Opel Rocks-e (see link below) and the Citroën Ami have been scurrying through the streets of major European cities for quite some time.

Strictly speaking, the electric midgets are more light vehicles than cars. Cool thing about it: At 15 you can already cruise in the maximum 45 km/h fast boxes with an AM driver's license. This puts the Fiat Topolino in competition with scooters, especially in its native Italy. And the Topolino has a lot to offer: A solid roof keeps you dry, and the plastic body over a steel frame provides additional security. However, you will look in vain for airbags or similar safety features. With a modest 6 kW (8 HP), the electric motor is not a powerhouse, but it also has to bring less than 500 kilos to a maximum of 45 km/h. In comparison, its predecessor, which was produced from 1936 to 1955, was a real chunk with 14 to 20 hp (10-15 kW), but also had more weight to move.

Since Fiat has only published one photo so far and is stingy with information, let's let our eyes wander to what we see: The doors are gone and make way for ropes - quite stylish and unconventional. The dashboard is colorful and above the heads of the maximum of two occupants, we see a soft top. The range should be a maximum of 75 kilometers, comparable to the Rocks-e, and its price of at least €8.000 could be a reference to the price of the Fiat Topolino (2023). Whether the sweet little thing from Italy will also roll to Germany is not certain yet - Stellantis likes to split its markets internally - as is the case with the Opel Rocks-e, which is aimed at the German market, and the identical Citroën Ami, which is sold in France.
