New times have also dawned at Ferrari in Maranello, and after that SF90 now comes the 296 GTB with plug-in hybrid drive, which slowly but surely catapults the Italians into the future of sports car construction. After Porsche and McLaren have already pushed the electrification of their automobiles, Ferrari is now following suit, and with the 296 GTB is not only bringing a plug-in hybrid that can be charged at the socket, but also a hybrid sports car that looks like a serial hybrid as we know it from Toyota, for example, his electric motor in a certain mode all alone again, without the help can charge from an electrical outlet.

Evolution in terms of design.

The exterior is very angular, and the front and rear sections strongly emphasize the horizontal lines of the latest sports car from Maranello. The extremely flat front and the windscreen, which does not have a visible A-pillar, are reminiscent of American sports cars like a Corvette or Viper. The trapezoidal headlights, which are somewhat similar to those of a Corvette C8, also fit seamlessly into the evolutionary design line of the 296 GTB.

The sideline, on the other hand, is a bit reminiscent of the blessed Enzo, as it has a very pronounced shoulder line and ends in an extremely flat rear, which is also a bit in the American style and has parallels to the current Ford GT. At the rear, the Ferrari design language becomes clear, because the taillights show a subtle resemblance to those of the new one Romawithout appearing so round and baroque. The entire design language of the 296 GTB is straighter, sleeker and more streamlined than that of the Roma, whereby Ferrari's new design philosophy comes to the fore.

The extremely short wheelbase and the compact external length of just 4,56 m make the car the most compact Ferrari of the last few decades. The placement of the exhaust pipes, which is based heavily on the current McLaren models, is striking. Even the fuel cap is probably not so easy for laypeople to find, as it is placed above the rear sill and thus fits seamlessly into the sporty design.

Sporty cockpit in classic Ferrari style.

In the interior it is fully digital instrument scheme of the SF90 Stradale and the cockpit is based heavily on the classic Ferrari cockpit layout. Touch controls on the dashboard and the steering wheel, as well as a screen in front of the front passenger, which duplicates part of the instrumentation, are among the highlights of the new 296 GTB. The display of the instrumentation on the passenger seat creates a co-pilot feeling in the passenger seat, which is incomparable in the world of sports cars.

2,9-liter V6 plug-in hybrid provides propulsion.

The scarce three liters V6-Gasoline engine has a new type of cylinder angle of 120 degrees between the cylinder banks. This lowers the center of gravity, and so does the two IHI turbocharger are housed more compactly inside the V. This engine was developed from the ground up for the model and, in addition to major differences, has some similarities with the Nettuno engine of the Maserati MC20. A system performance of 830 PS, with 663 hp resulting from the 2,9-liter V6 biturbo engine, as well as a maximum torque of 740 Newton meter, make the 296 GTB one of the most powerful Ferrari production models of all time.

From It goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 2,9 seconds, and on 200 it goes from the stand in merely 7,3 seconds. In addition, the curb weight is 1.470 kg, which means that  power to weight ratio at fabulous 1,77 kg / hp lies. The electric motor is fed by a 7,45 kWh battery, which has a range of 25 km in pure electric mode guaranteed, which is connected to a pure rear-wheel drive. If the GTB should call up the maximum power, two motors work together, and a system output of 830 hp is created, which is also in the all wheel drive results.

The Conclusion about the new Ferrari 296 GTB:

From our point of view, this is how a hybrid sports car should be. With the option of the electric motor too recharge wirelessly, and with performance that leaves nothing to be desired.
