At that time there were heated discussions about Christopher Edward Bangle and his design of the BMW 7 Series (E65 / 66, 2001–2008). The successor to the elegant E38 appeared in 2001 under the Bangle flag as a completely new interpretation and caused a storm of indignation among traditionalists. And in contrast to current discussions, which usually settle after a short time, many years later there is still complaining about the chubby luxury limousine, the tailgate of which was particularly a thorn in the side of the fans. And Bangle was also responsible for the BMW 6 Series (E63 / 64, from 2004) and the technically identical 5 Series (E60 / 61) that brought a very similar unpopular tailgate. But BMW designer Domagoj Dukec has been in discussion almost as intensively as Bangle at the latest since the presentation of the G11 / G12 7-series facelift and various leaks on the planned M4.

5,6-liter ten-cylinder unit

He has been at the helm of the BMW design team since April 2019 and thus heads the design responsibility of BMW Group Design. Yes, back to the M6 / 6 series! About 2 years after the official introduction Henry Fisker and his company Fisker Coachbuild buttoned up and turned completely left. The Fisker Latigo came out, however, in contrast to the Tramonto also presented at that time, has remained a unique piece. The mechanics are under the cover (Seven-speed manual transmission etc.) from BMW and outside there is a design language that is somewhat reminiscent of an Aston Martin. And especially the hated tailgate of the 6er has disappeared and has been replaced by an unspectacular conventional specimen with extended rear lights in the Alfa GT style. And an absolute highlight is under the hood. This is where a ten-cylinder unit drilled to 5,6 liters using the performance package (Basis: S85B50 V10 with 5-liter displacement) with optimized intake paths, sharper camshaft from Racing Dynamics and this results in an output of 654 PS & 600 Newton meters of torque. And that as a pure sucker!

only 4,1 seconds to 100 km / h

Powerful performance and enough power to accelerate to 4,1 km / h in just 100 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 km / h. And all with a completely new look. The kidneys typical of BMW have disappeared and are now replaced by a wire mesh grill that is reminiscent of the silhouette of the F / A 22 Raptor fighter jet. The headlights are still from the six, but the new front apron and the modified fenders ensure a filigree design thanks to some overlaps. The lower part of the front apron is typical BMW and also the rear apron, which now goes to the rear lights, gives the Munich man a little hint. Only the side section is strongly reminiscent of the original coupe, to which the typical M rear view mirrors also contribute. Incidentally, the material for almost all components of the vehicle was carbon. Should be called fender, bumper, bonnet and tailgate save weight compared to the series.

$ 300.000 was scheduled

And the wheel arches fill new 20-inch aluminum wheels that make the Latigo look even sportier and more aggressive. And in the interior, too, efforts have been made to exude a little individuality. However, not with a fundamentally new design, but only with new materials and by removing the BMW logos. The Fisker Latigo has installed light brown and black leather on the seats, the dashboard, the steering wheel and the doors and there were aluminum trim strips as a contrast. Back then, a small series of 150 pieces was supposed to cost around $ 300.000. Unfortunately, that never happened. Just the badge in the center console with the note No. 001 of 150 informs about the original plan. If we receive timely information on further changes to the Fisker Latigo CS Coupé, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
