With the idea of third generation of the F-150 Raptor from Ford, the question immediately arose in our minds: "What about the V8?" Why was the new Raptor generation only presented with a V6? However, the blue oval in combination with a rather sinful announcement gave the fans hope. And now, after 17 months of waiting, the time has come and the result is in, the F-150 Raptor R was presented!

With the announcement of a V8 Raptor, the rumor mill was heated up and the fan base divided into two camps. Some expected the free-sucking one 7,3 liter “Godzilla” pushrod, the others rely on the 5,2 liter supercharged V8 from the Mustang Shelby GT500. The second faction was right. In the GT500 version, the performance was included in the Mustang when it was launched 771 PS & 847 Nm torque. But the variant of the "Predator" eight-cylinder was optimized for use in the Raptor R lower and middle speed range. The result are 867 Nm at 4250 to 5000 rpm.

Ford achieves the new power output by recalibrating the 2,65 liter compressor and by installing a smaller compressor wheel (80mm in the GT 500 – 74mm in the Raptor). This has one reduction the maximum output by 60 hp 710 PS as a result. That's unfortunately 2 hp fewer than in the Ram TRX, the one with it most powerful series pickup remains. However, one must not forget that the weight of the Raptor is "only" about 2.700 kilograms. That's a weight increase of just 45 kilograms compared to the V6 Raptor and really little compared to the Ram TRX. Because he weighs 181 kilograms More and the supposedly better values of +2 hp and +14 Nm will not bring any real advantage.

Ford also installed a new one Oil cooler, a new Oil filter, a deeper one sump and a revised one inlet system. That should be the basis for more longevity of the V8. However, if you hope for the well-known double clutch from the GT500 variant, you will be disappointed. Here Ford continues to rely on the 10-speed automatic from the normal Raptor with his gear ratio. And if you had hopes that Ford would reinvent itself in the new Raptor version, you will certainly be a little disappointed. Of course, equipping it with the new V8 is exactly the move fans were hoping for, but are aside from being stiffer Spring there are not really many innovations on the front axle to compensate for the additional weight. Both the, admittedly, extremely capable chassis and the selection of different driving modes are taken over from the basic Raptor variant. However include in the V8 version 37 inch (0,94 m) tires to default!

there are only small optical details

Visually, there are hardly any significant references to the V8. The one on the hood Power Dome is 10 mm higher and a new one R emblem adorns the radiator grille at the bottom corner. There are also orange-matched ones "Raptor" lettering and acronyms. And the shade of orange can also be seen consistently on the tow hooks or graphics, which are optionally available. the wheelhouses however, have received a black finish and that is black too Leather in the interior, about on the Recaro chairs, but in some places with Alcantara is added.

And how much does the special version of Raptor Madness cost? In the United States are currently 109.145 dollars called! And anyone who wants to import the V8 Raptor to Germany can certainly imagine what awaits them. Incidentally, the price quoted for the Raptor R version, apart from the premium paintwork and the sunroof, all options included in the basic versions. Should also mean the 37-inch wheels, the rims with Beadlock feature, the complete active safety equipment, the audio system or the interior including carbon decors. The Ford F-150 Raptor R will be delivered to dealerships in the United States later this year.

  1. Pointless vehicle and timing of launch at a liter price of 2.50-2.70 98-100 octane couldn't be worse. Great what's up...but what for? ? ? All just marketing shouting along the lines of look here...
