5,0-liter V8 with 338 kW (460 PS)

The new Mustang Mach 1 has a 338 kW (460 hp) * five-liter V8 engine. With its special chassis and adapted aerodynamics, it is considered a series variant of the American cult sports car that is particularly suitable for the race track. This is reflected in an appropriately balanced handling as well as in a more powerful cooling concept for the drive train. In addition, the manual 6-speed manual transmission from TREMEC is another Mustang European innovation from Ford. Among other things, it is characterized by automatic speed adjustment when downshifting. Alternatively, a modern 1-speed automatic is available for the Mustang Mach 10, the electronic control of which has been optimized for use on public roads as well as on closed-off routes.

with Electric Power-Assisted Steering

The chassis design of the Mustang Mach 1 is the guarantee for perfect performance in everyday life and on racing courses. It is based on specially calibrated MagneRide shock absorbers with appropriately adapted springs, anti-roll bars and suspension elements. Even with high centrifugal forces, they provide clear feedback and easy-to-control self-steering behavior. The same applies to the coordination of the electro-mechanical EPAS power steering (Electric Power-Assisted Steering), which is even more precise. Convincing result: No other production Mustang version offered by Ford in Europe could be driven as quickly on the racetrack as the new Mach 1.

The exceptional performance is reflected in the appearance of the edition model. As with the historical predecessors of the Mustang Mach 1 from the 1960s and 1970s, powerful design elements adorn the bonnet and the body flanks. They are part of eight special color compositions, which are made up of the body paint and contrasting decors. In addition, there are 19-inch alloy wheels that have been designed independently. Every single Mustang Mach 1 also receives a badge with the individual production number.

"The Mach 1 always stood for the ultimate production version when it came to performance on closed race tracks, and it has also achieved many successes in motorsport“, Explains Matthias Tonn, chief engineer for the Mustang Mach 1 program in Europe. "Accordingly, the new Mach 1 is the most powerful Mustang that Ford has ever offered in Europe. It can go straight to the starting line at the next Track Day and, with its unique design, leaves no doubt that it is rightly entitled to this legendary model name."

Open-air intake system, external oil cooler, sports exhaust system

The new Mustang Mach 1 is powered by a 338 kW (460 hp) variant of Ford's 5,0-liter aluminum V8 engine. With its special configuration, it is ideal for use on and off the racetrack. This can already be seen on the intake side: Your “open-air” intake system, including the 87 millimeter throttle valve, is derived directly from the North American Mustang Shelby GT350. With this intake system, the eight-cylinder can breathe particularly freely. The fuel is atomized in the combustion chambers by a low-pressure intake port injection in conjunction with a high-pressure direct injection. One consequence: the engine is particularly easy to turn. The V8 reaches its peak performance in Mach 1 at 7.500 tours and thus at the same time as the start of the red speed range. The maximum torque of 529 Newton meters is at 4.600 rpm.

The Mustang Mach 350 has also taken over the external oil cooler from the Shelby GT1. It works with a new oil filter adapter. Together they keep the oil cycle safe, even under continuous high loads. A second air-oil cooler improves the efficiency of the cooling system by 75 percent - enough to easily cope with the high loads that can occur on circuits. The specially developed sports exhaust system with active flap control and four 4,5-inch tailpipes emphasize the characteristic V8 sound.

Two gear options are available!

The two transmission options of the Mach 1 also ensure driving fun and optimal performance. A novelty for the Mustang in Europe is the manual 6-speed manual transmission of the TREMEC 3160 type. Its two-disc clutch enables quick and precise gear changes at high speeds Shorter switching travel underlines the dynamic impression. When downshifting, the electronic control automatically compensates for the difference in speed by means of targeted double-declutching thrusts - this counteracts overbraking of the driven rear wheels and stabilizes driving behavior during dynamic racing on the racetrack. On the other hand, the driver does not have to take his foot off the accelerator pedal when upshifting. This means that you can change gears with minimal interruption in traction.

Alternatively, a modern 10-speed automatic is available. It is characterized by an improved torque converter, while its electronic control has been adapted to the greater drive torque and has correspondingly sporty characteristics. Regardless of the gear combination selected, the Mustang Mach 1 is factory-fitted with a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle. It improves traction when accelerating out of corners and when driving straight ahead.

Aerodynamic downforce improved by 22 percent

Even if they are primarily intended to function and, above all, to make the Mustang Mach 1 fast on closed slopes: The special shapes of the edition model combine aerodynamic and aesthetic requirements and also pick up on accents from the historical predecessor models. This applies, for example, to the side air inlets and the new, two-part upper and lower grille, which also has a splitter element. This improves the airflow along the front section and corresponds to the higher cooling air requirements of the top series athlete.

Overall, the Mustang Mach 1 generates aerodynamic downforce that is 22 percent higher than that of the Mustang GT. This is mainly due to its aerodynamically effective diffuser - the component comes from the North American Mustang Shelby GT500 - and the matching underbody. With its special fins, it also supplies important cooling air to the brakes. The specially developed front spoiler ensures contact pressure on the front axle, while the single-wing rear spoiler ensures the aerodynamic balance of the sports car.

The adjustable chassis, which is finely tuned to the needs of the Mustang Mach 1, provides the basis for great fun at track days and similar racing events. The focus is on the electronically controlled MagneRide shock absorbers. Thanks to a hydraulic fluid that changes its viscosity under the influence of a magnetic field, you can adapt your response behavior to external conditions practically in real time. There are also tighter springs on the front axle and stronger anti-roll bars. In addition to the newly calibrated EPAS power steering, the front chassis frames of the Shelby GT350 and GT500, in conjunction with appropriately adapted tie rods, ensure that the Mustang Mach 1 turns more immediately and directly than any other European model in this sports car series before.

A more powerful and even faster reacting brake booster rounds off the chassis modifications. Even under heavy loads, it ensures constant, easily controllable braking behavior with a high deceleration effect. The 19-inch alloy wheels have their own design and are half an inch wider on the front and rear axles than on other Mustang models. As standard, high-performance tires of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 type, suitable for circuit tracks, are used.

The rebirth of an iconic design

An unmistakable appearance characterized by motorsport and optimized aerodynamics as well as expressive colors and decors have always been among the distinctive features of every Mustang Mach 1 generation. The latest edition continues this tradition. Eight compositions of body color and appropriately adapted decorative elements are available, including jet gray with satin black / reflective orange stripes, iridium black and liquid white with satin black / red stripes or grabber yellow and race red with satin black / white stripes. The upper and lower grille are each given a glossy black coating, the typical Mach 1 logo adorns the trunk lid and the front fenders.

An ebony color scheme and dark, surface-processed aluminum characterize the design of the interior. The leather upholstery of the sports seats is adorned with color-coordinated seams. A badge in the dashboard bears the Mach 1 logo and the individual production number of the vehicle. There are also special entry sills and a new welcome graphic for the twelve-inch instrument display. Heated and ventilated front seats are part of the standard comfort equipment of the Mustang Mach 1. It also includes the Ford SYNC 3 communication and entertainment system, a premium sound system from B&O with twelve loudspeakers and the FordPass Connect modem for high-performance connectivity.

"The Mach 1 keeps what its impressive looks promise to Mustang fans: It offers plenty of performance on closed-off routes and combines this with great driving fun in daily use", Says Matthias Tonn."We are pleased to be able to offer the Mustang Mach 1 for the first time in Europe through our dealer network - for us it is currently the most fascinating model of this legendary sports car family."

Mustang Mach 1 history dates back to 1969

The history of the Mustang Mach 1 goes back to 1969. The first generation was based on the Mustang GT at the time, but surpassed it, for example, with a more powerful V8 engine, a racing chassis and special design elements. No less than 295 speed and endurance records have been set on the dried up salt lake of Bonneville / Utah. In motorsport, the Mustang Mach 1 won the SCCA rally championship in 1969 and 1970. Other Mach 1 models followed in 1971, 1974 and 2003. To date, Ford has produced more than 300.000 Mustang Mach 1 models
