If the 991 with E-Hybrid technology doesn't exist, then you build it yourself! The US tuner "Vonnen" has therefore developed the so-called "Shadow Drive" system that brings additional 150 PS & 150 NM into the 911 and many more by means of an electric drive. Regardless of whether it is a Porsche Boxster or Cayman from 1997 and the legendary 1965, it should even be possible to electrify it from model year XNUMX. And also the variants (manual or automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, PDK, naturally aspirated or turbo engine) does not matter. So you don't have to wait for the planned hybrid 992 of the current generation, but can already call a hybrid 991 up to the XNUMX series or an E-Power Cayman / Boxster your own. The retrofit hybrid system called "Vonnen Shadow Drive (VSD)" consists of an electric motor between the gearbox and the factory motor from the KMR team (first certified reseller and installer for Vonnen hybrid systems) is installed.

The additional 150 PS & 150 Newton meters easily compensate for the 77 kilograms of additional weight, because they are reflected directly on the crankshaft of the engine. Since the starter and the flywheel fly out, the difference, as already mentioned, is only about 77 kilograms compared to the series. Incidentally, the battery is charged while driving using recuperation and if that is not enough, the rear engine is commissioned. There is an app for the user that displays and even saves all system data. The smartphone application controls the hybrid system via Bluetooth connection and even different driving modes such as track or overboost can be selected with the mobile phone. Similar to a chip tuning box, the “Shadow Drive” can also be used completely disabled .

Only the conversion costs of a good 68.000 euros are quite violent as we find. After all, that's almost ten times the value of a used Porsche Boxster from 1998. The 2020 exhibition vehicle based on a 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S, however, looks different. Here you should plan at least € 90.000 for a used one. And then the cool safari look, the suspension lift by 2 inches (approx. 5 cm), the small front bar with LED additional headlights and the new rims with off-road tires are certainly not yet there. The ability to increase performance without affecting fuel consumption, emissions and driving behavior sets the system apart from conventional options. But the price too!
