Great Wall Pao Black Bullet - robust off-road pickup from China.

The Chinese automotive group Great Wall Motors (GWM) is currently on the rise. Various new series models and concept cars are currently being presented at the Beijing Auto Show, including many with electric drives. But even the classic internal combustion engine has not quite had its day, and so the petrol-powered pick-up was named Great Wall Pao Black Bullet presented at the largest auto show of 2020. This tuned pickup monster, which is guaranteed to burrow over every obstacle in the way, is powered by a 2-liter turbo gasoline engine. In contrast to many competitors who rely on a diesel engine, Great Wall swears by the operation with gasoline, as this enables the truck called Pao to be registered in major Chinese cities. It is well known that diesels are banned in car models under 7,5 tons in China, at least in the larger cities, where exhaust emissions laws are stricter, than in the countryside and in smaller towns in the Middle Kingdom.

Black pickup with a rarity.

In order to make a powerful impression on the audience of the Beijing Auto Show, the Great Wall Pao Black Bullet was painted in matt black and was raised so that it is more suitable for off-road use and can also dig through mud and rubble. In addition, orange-colored add-on parts were attached to the front, which create the ideal contrast to the matt black paintwork. There are also coarse off-road tires that immediately signal the intentions of the Pao Black Bullet. The tires are mounted on matt black aluminum rims with an orange ring, which immediately catch the eye and reflect the color combination of the body. However, we don't get that very clever from the loading area cover of the Great Wall Pao, because it is not completely closed, and also not open, so that it is virtually impossible to transport a motorcycle, a bicycle or a quad, for example. After all, off-road pickups are there to act as a load donkey for the above-mentioned vehicles. Nevertheless, the rear looks extremely cool, of course, and the front, which is somewhat reminiscent of a Toyota Tundra, has been significantly tightened by the modifications and given a sportier character.

Interior in the Great Wall with paint from the exterior

The interior has also been heavily modified, for example black and white leather seats with orange contrasting stitching were introduced to visually enhance the interior. The color combination continues through to the automatic selector lever, which is also kept in the same color. Otherwise, the cabin largely corresponds to the production model, which already has a large infotainment system with touchscreen and offers all the comfort features that one can imagine in a pickup of this class.

The engine is a 2-liter turbo gasoline engine

Nothing has changed in the drive train compared to the production version, and the same four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with a displacement of 2 liters and 197 hp drives the Pao Black Bullet. We assume that this version uses all-wheel drive, but there are also rear-wheel drive variants of the pickup. Power is transmitted either via an eight-speed automatic transmission or via a six-speed manual transmission.

Opponent for Ford Ranger Raptor and the like.

With the Pao Black Bullet, GWM has put a veritable opponent for the Ford Ranger Raptor and the new Ram 1500 TRX on the wheels, which not only optically but also technically has what it takes to make the hearts of various pickup fans around the world higher to let beat. This is still only a study, but it is quite possible that there will soon be a production version of the Pao Black Bullet.
