Bentley Motors introduces a new flagship of the ultimate grand tourer convertible - the Continental GT Speed ​​Convertible. The performance-oriented speed model is the most powerful, most driver-oriented interpretation of the Grand Tourer Cabriolet, which is setting standards worldwide. The third generation of the Continental GT Speed ​​Convertible is equipped with an optimized version of the tried and tested 6,0 liter W12 TSI engine from Bentley, which impresses with outstanding, further increased performance indicators: 659 hp, 0-100 km / h in 3,7 seconds and a top speed of 335 km / h. The new Grand Tourer Cabriolet complements its coupé stable companion - the Continental GT Speed, unveiled last month - at the top of the Continental model range.

The new GT Speed ​​Convertible, designed, engineered and handcrafted in Bentley's CO2-neutral luxury automobile plant, offers optimized chassis technology that includes all-wheel steering, an electronic rear differential and optional carbon-ceramic brakes. This contributes to outstanding vehicle agility and sovereignty without affecting the famous driving comfort of the Continental GT Convertible.

The Continental GT Speed ​​Convertible is equipped with a custom-made folding top that can be opened or closed in just 19 seconds, transforming the vehicle from a luxurious coupé into a grand tourer convertible at the push of a button.

New, technologically advanced chassis

State-of-the-art chassis technologies give the third generation of the GT Speed ​​Convertible incomparable control and precision, which ensure an even more confident driving experience.

Bentley's basic idea - vehicles should feel progressive and safe, yet dynamic - has been retained, so that this approach offers a satisfying driving experience for everyone. In order to implement this philosophy in BENTLEY and COMFORT mode, the traction is evenly distributed between the front and rear wheels, while the torque in SPORT mode is shifted in favor of the rear axle in all driving situations.

The improved cornering dynamics and the additional traction of the new systems enable the driver to accelerate out of every corner with even greater precision and confidence. In return, the vehicle can draw the maximum power from the available traction in order to offer a fascinating acceleration ability with outstanding serenity at the same time. In SPORT mode, the traction management system shifts proportionally more power to the rear axle, which means that curves can be negotiated in an even more controlled line when the accelerator pedal is depressed.

These systems are accompanied by chassis technologies that ensure vehicle stability and driving comfort without weighing them up against each other - in particular Bentley's active three-chamber air suspension with adaptive shock absorption and the Bentley Dynamic Ride system, the active 48-volt roll stabilization, which Bentley first introduced in the Bentayga and introduced it in the third generation of the Continental GT.

This innovative system is equipped with powerful electric motors in each stabilizer to prevent the body from rolling. In their tightest setting, these engines can develop an output of 0,3 Nm in 1.300 seconds to counter centrifugal forces in curves and prevent the body from tilting.

A carbon-ceramic brake system was introduced as an optional extra for the Speed. The use of high-performance materials reduces the force required for braking from high speeds and lowers the risk of loss of braking efficiency. The traction control and torque distribution associated with the active all-wheel steering have been retuned in all operating modes, giving the speed a significantly different character than the normal Continental GT convertible.

The new Continental GT Speed ​​Convertible combines maximum performance with elegance and luxury. It draws its strength from a modified version of Bentley's imposing W12 TSI engine, which offers an outstanding 659 hp - an increase of 24 hp - and an impressive torque of 900 Nm. This engine enables an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3,7 seconds and a top speed of 335 km / h.

Handcrafted in Crewe, the 6,0-liter engine is the most advanced twelve-cylinder in the world. The engine and transmission have been specially adapted to the powerful performance of the Speed.

Most noticeable is this new calibration in SPORT mode, in which the doubly turbocharged W12 is tuned to keep the engine in the power range longer by shifting up or downshifting earlier. The result is a responsiveness that reacts more lively to the demands of the driver.

The gear changes of the eight-speed dual clutch transmission are twice as fast in SPORT mode as in the W12 standard model - extremely suitable for a vehicle that takes its place at the top of the Continental GT family. This is combined with a more charismatic engine sound when starting and downshifting.

Athletic body design - unique speed details

A sports car through and through: the new Continental GT Speed ​​Convertible is an effortless combination of style and motivation. The charismatic presence of what is probably the world's most exquisite Grand Tourer Cabriolet is underlined with unique details.

The tailor-made convertible top of the Speed ​​can be opened or closed in just 19 seconds, and that up to a driving speed of 50 km / h.

Speed ​​models are supplemented with dark-tinted grille inserts on the radiator and lower bumper as well as with sports side skirts and discreet speed emblems on the front bumper.

Unique 22-inch speed wheels are offered in a matching dark tint, which can be rounded off with accents in high-gloss silver or black. "Jewel" tank caps for fuel and oil filler necks as well as an illuminated BENTLEY lettering on the outer door sill provide a subtle indication of the speed's performance.

Seven exterior colors are available for the hood, including a modern take on traditional British tweed. Other options include Black, Blue, Claret, and Gray. There is also a choice of eight headlining variants, from New Red to Magnolia.

The unique folding system of the convertible top is the most modern of its kind. Compared to the previous generation, the convertible top supports a reduction of the general noise level by three decibels at typical cruising speed with improvements to the sealing and sound insulation. A completely new combination of insulating materials, the opening mechanism and improvements to the sealing and sound insulation result in a Grand Tourer convertible that is as quiet on the inside as the previous generation's Continental GT Coupé.

Exclusive, handcrafted interior

The double diamond quilting and the headrests embroidered with the Speed ​​lettering indicate the capabilities of the most powerful Continental GT Convertible, while a monochrome color combination of Alcantara and leather can be selected as an option at no extra charge.

The Speed ​​is equipped with piano black veneer as standard, with Crown Cut or Dark Stain Burr Walnut and Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus available as additional equipment free of charge. Open-pored Dark Stain Burr Walnut, Crown Cut Walnut and Koa are also available for the design of the veneer.

A sports pedals and speed badges on the door sills are included as standard, while the center console can optionally be equipped with dark-tinted, polished aluminum (Dark Tint Engine Turned Aluminum). Neck heating (which is both warmer and quieter than that of the previous model) is seamlessly integrated into the heated and ventilated comfort seats; Efficiency and airflow around the electrically adjustable headrests have been optimized. The visual highlight of the new neck heating is a chrome-plated, centrally positioned slat that runs the entire width of the ventilation opening - an elegant reminiscence of Bentley's familiar "porthole" ventilation nozzles.
