The Haima brand is unlikely to be familiar to most of you. The result of the collaboration between Mazda and the Chinese auto giant FAW, Haima still stands for "Hainan-Mazda", although Mazda withdrew some time ago and Haima is now independent. Now Haima has just presented its first own platform, which is called HMGA, and will be home to all future models of the brand. The first completely independently developed model is the Haima 8S, a cool SUV that doesn't have to hide from the European competition and would also cut an excellent figure on Europe's roads.
OEM parts provide a sporty touch.
The vehicle that we are presenting to you is an exhibition vehicle that has been refined with various OEM accessories, and it is quite possible that this is a harbinger of a sporty special edition of the SUV. On the front, the red stripe that surrounds half of the grill is immediately noticeable, and the front spoiler with red accents also causes a stir. If you look at the SUV from the side, you immediately notice the double side skirts, which are also painted red at the top and harmonize in color with the grill surround and the red brake calipers, which live behind 18-inch OEM alloy wheels. These could serve as running boards, just like the good old off-roaders knew. A fake four-pipe exhaust system is then used at the rear, which is entirely in the AMG style and suggests a lot of sportiness. In addition, there is also a roof spoiler, which also has red elements, and shows that Haima is serious about “sport” in the term “sport utility vehicle”.
The interior looks sporty and modern.
In the interior there are only red ventilation nozzles as a reference to a sports version of the compact SUV, which was launched in China last year. Otherwise, the modern and somewhat unusually designed cabin is kept as standard, and pampers the driver with every conceivable comfort that is also known from European compact SUVs.
The drive is completely sufficient.
Legs makes the new Haima 8S a brand new, self-developed 1,6 liter turbo petrol engine with direct injection and four cylinders, which generates a tight 195 HP and 293 Newton meters of maximum torque. The power is transmitted via a six-speed automatic transmission with manual intervention. Equipped in this way, the 4,56 m long, 1,85 m wide and 1,68 m high compact SUV sprints from 7,8 to 0 km / h in a remarkable 100 seconds and reaches a top speed beyond 200 km / h. This would allow him to show a Nissan Qashqai or other popular Japanese compact SUV where the hammer is on the highway, especially since it can shine with a power to weight ratio of 8 kg / PS.
OEM parts are not yet available.
Unfortunately, we do not know whether these sporty parts will ever be available or whether it is just a feasibility study that was presented at a car show at the end of 2019. The “civil” version, which already looks very sporty, is fully equipped and available for just over 24.000 euros if you want to purchase it as a gray import from China, including taxes and import duties.
