Are pick-ups only suitable for suppliers and people who live far outside and have to drive on dusty country roads every day? Far from it - even in Germany, the trucks with the loading area have long since arrived in the city. Thanks to simple but efficient tuning measures, the trend is currently gaining speed.

The many pluses of cargo space covers

There's no question about it: sophisticated athletes are the tuner's favorite toy. Street racers like the BMW M6 are naturally predestined to be optimized inside and out. However, this does not mean that other vehicle types are left out. Because the tuning scene is now as wide as the car world itself. This means that there are countless ways to improve each category. The iconic pick-ups are no exception.

After all, they are the motorized epitome of the American dream. Large-volume engines, equally large tires and the touch of freedom and wilderness that has always characterized the USA have also helped the pick-up to become very popular in this country. The tuning scene has played its part in this. A look at the high-quality hardtops from different manufacturers speaks for itself: a load compartment cover protects the storage space and the contents, but the visual effects are at least as important as the practical advantages.

With a hardtop, the pick-up gets a closed, consistent line that not only looks sporty, but also has an impact on the aerodynamics. The fact that you actually save fuel without sacrificing performance is a very pleasant side effect.

Good news: quality products available at fair prices

Because of these many advantages, it goes without saying that pick-up owners should not save in the wrong place when it comes to covering the load space. This is not necessary at all, since hardtops are not too expensive in relation to the purchase price of the vehicle. The fact that they improve the value retention of the pick-up is also included in this calculation.

A rough overview shows that most hardtops are in the price range of 500 to 2.000 euros. In comparison, the prices of some well-known pick-ups: The German VW Amarok with a 204 hp V6 diesel starts at over 43.000 euros, the American flagship pick-up Ford F-150 starts at just under 24.000 euros and the Japanese Toyota Hilux is not available as a new car for less than 25.000 euros. Investing in a hardtop also makes sense for economic reasons; Combined with the general lifestyle trend that pickup trucks define, this is even more true.

Thanks for this post about hardtops at pick ups. I bought a pick-up last year and now want to tune it up a bit and bring it up to scratch. I'm going to a specialty store soon to buy pick-up accessories. Good indication that a hardtop not only looks sporty, but also has an impact on aerodynamics.
