Classic tuning: the Hartge H6SP BMW 635CSi Coupe!

Tuning in the 80s? It wasn't just in the area of VW Golf, Opel Manta and Ford Capri, but also one floor up on the BMW 6 Series Coupe. More specifically, the E24, which was the first BMW 6-series to be built from October 1975 to April 1989 and only received a real successor in 2003 with the E63 (coupe) and the E64 (convertible). The E24 6 Series had a 6-cylinder in-line engine with 135 to 210 kW under the long hood and exclusively rear-wheel drive. Compared to the E9, the E24 no longer had the cool side windows that could be completely sunk without a frame, but the new one was much safer. And faster too! Especially as a modified variant.

And there were different versions. In 1982, for example, Alpina launched the B635 based on the 9 CSi. And the renowned tuner AC Schnitzer also had a tuned version of the 6 with the Type 1 CS / 6. And of course, Hartge was not to be slacked back then and converted the 1982 CSi to the H1987 from 635 to 6. Under the designation H6SP, the 6-series was given an impressive 187 kW (255 hp) and a top speed of 243 km / h. And only a short time later, the H6-24 based on the M 635 CSi even launched a 244 kW (330 hp) version with a top speed of 262 km / h. Incidentally, the "entry-level version" was the H6s with 240 PS, the basis of which was the 218 PS 635 CSi. And an H6SP (Chassis number WBAEC710518173547) from 1983 is now available for RM Sotheby's Essen auction to be auctioned in summer. Specifically, it is a specimen with an M30B34 six-cylinder that generates almost 250 hp and powerful 450 NM torque using Hartge treatment.

Hartge strut brace for stiffening the body

The horses have been doing their duty under a chic strut brace for over 35 years. The H6SP also stands out visually and acoustically from the series. Hartge gave the 6 Series a specially adapted exhaust system for a richer sound and in terms of optics there were new aluminum rims, Hartge decor on the sides, Hartge H6SP emblems, a subtle lowering and the current vehicle even wears the then popular ones Sinti Sickles which also as Radlaufchrom were known. And even then you showed what you had in the cabin. Small details such as the new steering wheel, special floor mats or the cool gear knob convey Hartge flair and exclusivity even in the interior.
