Hennessey Performance: no chip tuning on the Corvette C8?

Hennessey Performance: no chip tuning on the Corvette C8?

Almost legendary are the Hennessey performance performance kits for the Chevrolet Corvette. HPE800, HPE850, HPE1000 and that's wrong HPE1200 kit push each generation of the Corvette in some insane performance spheres. But that could mean that the mid-engine C8, (maybe Corvette C8 is also called Zora) on the 18. July 2019 will celebrate its world premiere, be final. Starting from the 6.2-liter V8 (LT2) as a sucker, it is with high probability also a new 180 ° -V8, possibly a 5,5-liter V8 BiTurbo and even from a 1.000 PS strong V8 compressor is the speech. However, rumor has it that the C8 will debut with a unique coded ECU (Engine Control Module) system.

is chip tuning a problem?

This could make it impossible in the case of doubt, the tuning scene to access the software of the engine and thus to increase the performance. At least these are currently the concerns of the US tuner Hennessey Performance. Also use so-called tuning boxes in plug & play (are clamped in front of the control unit) are unlikely to do much, except for countless errors and glitches. One would therefore have to confine to the 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette on optical details. Changes to the engine software would fail, and it is said that attempting a change puts the controller back in a kind of "recovery mode". On the other hand, a lot of other manufacturers like BMW have already tried this and so far the tuning industry has still been able to access the engine control parts or to develop freely programmable control parts for the respective vehicles. We hope that this also applies to the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8.

About Thomas Wachsmuth

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
