Heavy part: HGP VW Golf 8 R with 526 PS & 629 NM!

With the VW Golf VIII (Mk8) as the top model "R" Volkswagen has brought a real steam hammer onto the market. Of course, a slightly modified RS3 five-cylinder (VW EA855 evo) would have been the absolute dream of the community, but we think it is 320 PS & 420 NM powerful four-cylinder (VW EA888), which it ultimately became, doesn't really have to hide. After all, the R is faster than ever before and the engine still has a lot of power potential. And it is precisely this potential that the team at is now promoting HGP to light and presents one 526 PS strengthened MK8 R. And we already know him, because he was with one a good year ago first upgrade to 444 hp. But now it has almost the same engine as the one recently presented by MotorOliTV (Oliver Gmeinder). Cupra Formentor VZ5 by HGP. And this time, too, MotorOliTV was allowed to try out what the conversion is capable of. There is also an informative video on the technology (TechUpdate) and another on the result of the efforts (POV-Style). Both are included below and at this point many thanks again Oli.

But what exactly did HGP change on the R? Let's start first with what you can see from the outside. We jump here, next to the HGP foiling on the doors, especially the fancy black ones 19 inch OZ alloy wheels with the Pirelli PZero slippers in the eye. Due to a lowering by means of KW coilover kit the ultra-light wheel set sits perfectly in the wheel housing. In addition, behind the Rundlings there is also a changed one sports brake system. And one 6-piston ceramic brake with mighty 380 mm discs on the front axle and painted red Calipers. There are no more visual changes, and that's for the perfect one Sleeper performance also good like that. And then of course there would be the massive one performance increase on the ones mentioned 526 PS and no less spectacular 629 NM torque. That's a premium compared to the series 206 PS & 209 NM. And they are noticeable in an acceleration from 100 to 200 km/h in approx. 7,5 seconds. Furthermore, according to the speedometer, the Wolfsburg flies insane ones 325 kilometers per hour schnell.

the details of the increase in performance

And how exactly does HGP achieve the extra performance? For example with an individual Sports exhaust system (different MSD, more cross-section, different Kat, OPF is retained etc.) and with one Wagner intercooler and hose set. In order for the latter to fit optimally and work optimally, even a modified one is front carrier been necessary. This ensures uniform cooling of the charge air. The core is of course the one modified by HGP turbocharger and the HGP intake with the appropriate ones intake hoses.

The latter is the OEM intake, so to speak, which HGP has optimized and also with a K&N sports air filter is stocked. All this is of course combined with an individual Chiptuning. In addition, HGP has also adjusted and optimized the factory torque vectoring (torque distribution). Info: Incidentally, the Cupra Formentor VZ 2.0 TSI 4Drive with VW EA888 four-cylinder can be converted identically by HGP! After all, the engine of the Golf R is under the hood! And now have fun with the Autobahn video from Motor OliTV. If we get more information, there will of course be an update for this report.
