Restomod Jaguar E-type Zero: The classic is streaming now

Is that him "most beautiful electric car in the world"? Last year the British manufacturer Jaguar launched the E-type Zero presented a completely electric powered E-type based on the classic E-type Roadster by 1968 and made exactly this statement! And especially with regard to the model range of Tesla, NIO or even brand new vehicles like that Mercedes EQC or the Audi e-tron that's probably true. The E-type Zero is manufactured in Warwickshire (optionally also in Essen) in the heart of England and can be ordered directly from the Jaguar website. The automobile declaration of independence of the 60er and 70er years comes now so with electric motor and bumps in sophisticated classic fans to great enthusiasm, but also criticism.

But there are no real reasons! Especially important is the fact that the complete conversion can be completely refitted upon request. Each new component requires only as much space as the old parts and thus a completely restored vehicle in the best condition in our opinion can certainly serve for the modification. The cost is about 70.000 € and the workload is quite manageable with about 80 hours. A prerequisite is of course a vehicle in good condition. If you do not have an e-Type, you can also order a complete copy directly from JLR Classic. The costs are then with at least 300.000 € but as expected high.

The pure assembly solution with the serial technology of the Jaguar i-Pace and Range Rover PHEV replaces the in-line six-cylinder with 3,8 or 4,2 liters displacement. And late vehicles with the 5,3 liter V12 engine and almost 280 hp can also be converted to electric drive at any time. According to Jaguar, however, the focus is on converting "disfigured" E-Type roadsters or coupes with V8 engines from Ford or General Motors and automatic transmissions. Once the conversion is complete, 258 electric horsepower provide propulsion and the maximum range is a good 40 km thanks to the 330 kWh battery pack. If you open the hood you will shine with the xk330-4 unit a worth seeing piece of high tech in the form of the electronics of the Range Rover P400 PHEV and the Jaguar i-Pace in the typical modern Plastic look.

So make it fast again! And what are the acceleration values? At 100 km / h in 7 seconds and only at the maximum speed, the electric model with electronically regulated 180 km / h has to pull the 242 km / h fast burners. The most obvious change is in the interior again where instead of the well-known toggle switch and chrome fittings now a high-tech dashboard made of carbon the driver all the information transmitted. Digital speedometer, everything about recuperation (Energy recovery) and the remaining range are displayed here. If this restomod change is too much for you, you can keep the historical instruments and only have to put up with an on-board computer instead of the rev counter.

The presentation vehicle even has four distinctive toggle switches and a large multifunctional screen for navigation. In addition, a new sound system and lots of other functions moved into this E-Type. If you wish, you don't even stop at an air conditioning system that can be controlled via the touch display. The Jaguar E-Type Zero also has other conveniences such as an inductive charging cradle for a mobile phone or a new control lever for the automatic. So “almost” nothing is missing - except the exhaust - but for what?
