Previously had Sergio Marchionne (CEO of Fiat SpA and CEO of Fiat Group Automobiles) the Jeep Commander as "not suitable for human consumption" designated. But as a road-legal locomotive? He probably never saw that coming. But they do exist. This Jeep Commander from 2008 will be featured in Mecum Auctions' Kissimmee Summer Special later this month as “2008 JEEP COMMANDER CUSTOM WOODY" under the LOT T169 auction come under the hammer. And it is practically unrecognizable. Because it was turned into a wooden locomotive. Unfortunately there are not really any details about the conversion, but the pictures should actually explain everything important. The Commander was completely gutted and covered with a special wooden body.

There is a wooden cow catcher and a box-shaped engine compartment with a steam boiler and bell on it. Maybe a real steam engine cylinder? Probably not! The unique design continues further back as there is a wooden roof and an open interior with a U-shaped rear seat. There is also a wooden dashboard, wooden floors and even a wooden center console is installed. The steering wheel, the round ventilation nozzles, the radio and the control unit for the ventilation are not made of wood. At the rear there is also a large RiverGrille which, considering the wooden body, certainly exudes "a certain" risk. Incidentally, it is not known why the renovation took place.

But the vehicle even seems to be approved for road traffic. It has full lighting, front and rear, exterior mirrors, seat belts and even a windscreen. We assume that the Custom Woody Commander is a former advertising gimmick. Not a particularly pretty one, however. We know of course that "Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder". However, we have examined the vehicle extensively and have come to the conclusion that it definitely belongs in our tuning fail category because WE do not consider it beautiful. What is your opinion about this? Beautiful or not so beautiful? Please leave a comment here!
Of course that had not happened yet!
