The EV6 is the first Kia based on the new electric platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) and represents the company's first step in the transition to the era of e-mobility under the new brand slogan "Movement that inspires" inspired). The new Stromer also marks the entry into the medium to long-term strategy, according to which a total of 2030 percent of Kia’s total sales will be battery vehicles (BEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and full hybrids (HEV), and environmentally friendly vehicles of these Kia models will then be sold 40 million units per year. The brand wants to increase its BEV sales to 1,6 units by 2030 and thus become one of the world's leading providers in this area. The EV880.000 is the first of eleven new battery-powered models that Kia will introduce by 6, seven of them based on the E-GMP architecture and four electric versions of existing models.

“The EV6 embodies the new Kia. It was created with the aim of inspiring every trip with its bold design, advanced engineering, innovative technologies and impressive performance, ”said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia. “In addition, the EV6 represents the beginning of Kia's long-term commitment to sustainable mobility. This should accelerate the transition to clean solutions not only in terms of transport, but also in terms of products, materials and production. "

The EV6 is produced in South Korea. It will go on sale in selected markets around the world from the second half of the year - including in Germany, where the new Kia Stromer can now be reserved online in advance.

New Kia design direction

New design language creates a balance between contrasting forces. The EV6 was designed according to the new "Opposites United" design philosophy. She is inspired by the opposites that can be found in nature and in being human. The focus of the design philosophy is a new visual identity that evokes positive forces and natural energy with contrasting combinations of sharply drawn style elements and plastic forms.

“As Kia's first all-electric model, the EV6 is a prime example of progressive, human-centered design combined with electric propulsion. We firmly believe that the EV6 is a very attractive and relevant model for the new era of electric vehicles, ”said Karim Habib, senior vice president and chief designer of Kia. "Our goal was to create a distinctive, effective design with the EV6 by combining sophisticated high-tech elements with pure and generous volumes, while at the same time offering a dedicated electric vehicle that defines our future."

The GT version of the EV6 was designed to bring something out of the ordinary to the crossover class. It offers a striking, impressive look with high-tech elements and a level of performance that is unprecedented in previous Kia electric vehicles.

At the front of the vehicle, the typical Kia “tiger face” has been further developed for the digital era. Part of the new “digital tiger face” is the elegant, modern daytime running light with a dynamic, “sequential” light pattern. Underneath there is a flat air inlet, which visually underlines the width of the vehicle front and also enhances the high-tech look.

The side view reveals a crossover-inspired aesthetic that is modern, elegant, and aerodynamic. A character line that visually extends the profile runs along the bottom of the doors and then swings up to the rear wheel arches. At the rear, the design of which is also aimed at maximum aerodynamics, high-gloss black inserts are integrated into the tapered C-pillars, giving the impression that the window glass continues here. Above this is a conspicuous, wing-like roof spoiler. It directs the airflow to a deeper spoiler, which forms the upper end of the unique rear light unit.

Inspirational space

Variable and spacious interior thanks to the new platform. The interior design is clearly a product of the electric vehicle era and benefits greatly from the new E-GMP platform. Despite its compact external dimensions, the EV6 has a similar amount of space as a mid-range SUV due to its wheelbase of 2,90 meters.

“People are first drawn to the exterior of a car, but ultimately they fall in love with the interior - where they spend most of their time,” says Jochen Paesen, Vice President and Head of Kia Interior Design. “It was therefore most important to us to give the EV6 an inspiring space. We believe the EV6 can inspire people by encouraging their creativity. "

One of the most striking elements in the interior is a seamless, curved, high-tech infotainment screen. The simple design language of this display and the slim dashboard give the interior an open atmosphere.

The slim, light and contemporary relaxation seats have modern, visually interesting and robust covers made from recycled plastics. The amount of recycled material that is used is equivalent to 111 plastic water bottles.

The EV6 is characterized by an intelligent arrangement of the interior elements and a high degree of flexibility. It offers a large number of shelves and a 520 liter luggage compartment (according to VDA). If the seats in the second row are folded down, its capacity increases to around 1.300 liters. Another storage space is located at the front under the hood. It holds 52 liters for rear-wheel drive models and 20 liters for all-wheel drive vehicles.

Electric power

Long range, all-wheel drive and zero emissions. With the EV6, buyers can choose between several fully electric, emission-free drive configurations, including two battery variants for the long-distance version (77,4 kWh) and the model with standard range (58,0 kWh). The EV6 GT Line is offered with both battery variants, the GT version only with the more powerful battery. The crossover is the first electric Kia that is optionally available as a four-wheel drive (AWD) in addition to the two-wheel drive (2WD). The AWD variant is able to cope with even the most difficult conditions thanks to its increased dynamic capabilities.

The EV6 2WD with 77,4 kWh battery has a combined range of over 510 kilometers (according to WLTP). It has a 168 kW (229 hp) electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The all-wheel drive version has two engines on the front and rear axles with a total of 239 kW (325 hp) and 605 Nm of torque and completes the sprint from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5,2 seconds.

The EV6 AWD with standard battery (58,0 kWh) is driven by two electric motors with a total of 173 (235 hp), which also provide 605 Nm of torque, and accelerates to 6,2 km / h in 100 seconds. The rear-wheel drive with standard battery has an electric motor with an output of 125 kW.

Platform offers flexibility in the performance of the electric drive

The new Kia platform E-GMP has a modular structure and is highly standardized, which reduces complexity. In this way, it promotes the rapid and flexible development of products with different properties. This flexibility allows various customer needs in terms of vehicle performance to be met within a single model range such as the EV6.

The EV6 GT, whose two engines mobilize a total of 430 kW, is on a different level in terms of performance. Its maximum torque of 740 Nm catapults the all-wheel-drive vehicle from standstill to 3,5 km / h in just 100 seconds, and acceleration only ends at the top speed of 260 km / h. The additional electronic locking differential software, which is only available for the EV6 GT, guarantees the highest level of control and driving dynamics under all conditions.

"The GT version of the EV6 demonstrates our technology leadership through its combination of excellent high-speed charging and the acceleration capabilities of a supercar," said Albert Biermann, President and Head of Research and Development of the Hyundai Motor Group, of which Kia is a part. "Thanks to our platform specially designed for electric vehicles, there is no need to compromise between inspiring space and performance."

800 volt ultra fast charging

Charge the battery to 18 percent in just 80 minutes, new "Vehicle-to-Load" function (V2L). The EV6 can be connected to 800 and 400 volt charging stations without additional components or adapters. This makes it possible for all model variants to charge the battery from 18 to 10 percent in just 80 minutes. And the 2WD versions with 77,4 kWh battery can "refuel" 100 kilometers in less than four and a half minutes.

The EV6 owes its greater charging flexibility compared to previous battery-electric vehicles to an integrated charging control unit (ICCU). The ICCU enables a new "Vehicle-to-Load" function (V2L), with which energy can be drawn from the vehicle battery. With this function, which supplies electricity with an output of up to 3,6 kW, a 55-inch television and a medium-sized air conditioning system can be operated simultaneously for up to 24 hours. If necessary, it can also be used to charge another electric vehicle.

The EV6 is also capable of towing trailers weighing up to 1,6 tons. In conjunction with the V2L function, owners of the electric crossover can take everything they need with them on an outdoor adventure with friends and family - without any emissions.

Energy recovery

Maximizing range and efficiency. Energy recovery technologies contribute to the long range of the EV6. This includes the latest generation of the energy-efficient heat pump from Kia, which uses the waste heat from the vehicle's cooling system. As a result, the EV6 can still achieve 7 percent of the range at an outside temperature of minus 80 degrees that would be possible at a temperature of 25 degrees.

The latest generation of the intelligent regenerative braking system from Kia is also used. It can recover kinetic energy when the vehicle decelerates to maximize the EV6's range and efficiency. The system can be operated quickly and easily using paddles on the steering wheel, whereby the driver can choose between six settings depending on the desired level of energy recovery (switched off / level 1, 2, 3 / "i-PEDAL" / auto mode). The maximum energy yield is achieved in the "i-PEDAL" mode. It makes it possible to bring the vehicle to a smooth stop without having to press the brake pedal.

Technology

New connectivity and infotainment functions for the electric vehicle era. The EV6 introduces a number of technologies that optimize safety, connectivity and infotainment. They are designed to make traveling safer, more convenient and less stressful.

The high-tech infotainment system includes two 12-inch screens. The curved displays have thin-film modules that use a new structure and modern technology to reduce the influence of lighting conditions. The instrument display and the infotainment display are connected to one another as if they were applied to a support made of reinforced glass. This unit extends from the steering wheel to the middle of the vehicle, with a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and the infotainment system above the central console.

The EV6 also has an augmented reality (AR) head-up display. It projects driving information onto the lower area of the windscreen directly into the driver's field of vision. This includes warning messages from the assistance systems, navigation instructions and the current speed.

Also available is a powerful Meridian® Surround audio system with 14 speakers, which is being used for the first time in a Kia electric vehicle and offers an extremely immersive sound experience. The system developed by the Meridian experts has various digital signal processing (DSP) technologies from the British audio pioneer. The integration of Meridian's core sound philosophy into the EV6 enables customers to enjoy natural, lifelike and authentic sound on the go.

The speaker system of the EV6 also offers an Active Sound Design (ASD) newly developed by Kia. This function, which can be controlled via the user interface, gives the driver acoustic feedback on the current speed of the crossover.

Security and comfort

High-tech driver support including remote parking assistant. With its wide range of state-of-the-art driver assistance systems (ADAS), the EV6 is at the forefront of its segment in terms of safety and comfort. The high-tech helpers help reduce many of the risks and stresses associated with driving and protect occupants and other road users.

The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) prevents collisions if the occupants overlook a vehicle approaching from behind while getting out. In this case, the system warns of opening the door. In the rear, it also automatically locks the door by activating the electronic child safety device.

The traffic jam assistant (Lane Follow Assist, LFA) keeps the vehicle in the middle of its lane. The system can be switched on and off while driving at the push of a button.

Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) keeps the EV2 centered in the lane at the set speed and ensures a safe distance from the vehicle in front. If a neighboring vehicle comes dangerously close to the crossover, the system helps to create the necessary safety distance to the side by adjusting the course in order to avoid a collision. In addition, above a certain speed it can independently change lanes as soon as the driver flashes in the appropriate direction - provided both hands are on the steering wheel. The Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) enables the EV6 to be maneuvered into and out of parking spaces by remote control.
