Lancia Pu+Ra HPE - the harbinger of a new era at Lancia!

“The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is our brand's vision for the next ten years. This concept vehicle is Lancia's first step towards electromobility and symbolizes our strategy to conceive and live automobiles. Starting with the new Lancia Ypsilon, all of our future car models will be inspired by the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE,” commented Luca Napolitano, CEO of the Lancia brand. The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE was born from the three-dimensional design study Lancia Pu+Ra Zero and shares many of its characteristics. The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE embodies the principles of the brand's new, innovative, pure and radical design language. The volumes of the body are created by the intersection of elementary and iconic shapes, including circles and triangles.

Lancia Pu+Ra HPE

Lancia developed the interior in cooperation with the luxury furniture brand Cassina. Overall, the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE displays a timeless, typically Italian style with an innovative approach that goes beyond the typical automotive design language.

The component Pu+Ra in the name of the new concept vehicle stands for the pure and radical design. HPE is the abbreviation for High Performance Electric and refers to the powerful electric drive as well as high environmental compatibility and innovative technology. Lancia first used the acronym HPE in the 1970s for the Beta model – at that time, however, the name was behind it High Performance Estate as a characterization of a sporty station wagon.

Painted in Progressive Green!

The body of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is in color Progressive Green painted. The bluish-green paint has a warm gold nuance, which is produced using a special process with liquid metal pigments. The hue pays homage to the historical Azzurro Vincennes, a body color of the Lancia Flaminia in the 1960s. In the modernized form as Progressive Green the unique paint refers to the sustainability that will have a high priority in the future of the Lancia brand.

The body of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE features flowing side lines that slope towards the rear, reminiscent of the historic Lancia Aurelia and Lancia Flaminia. The streamlined design emphasizes the efficient aerodynamics of the concept vehicle. The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE bears the new brand logo, which reinterprets the historic elements of the steering wheel, flag, shield and lance as well as the Lancia lettering. The new brand logo also symbolizes innovation, premium character, Italian style and a unique design language.

Reinterpretation of the Lancia grille

The front of the vehicle is dominated by the reinterpretation of the historic, shield-shaped Lancia grille. Three light beams make the new grille memorable and recognizable from afar. Above it is the new Lancia lettering in a typography inspired by the world of fashion. The design dialogue between past and future continues at the rear of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE. The round taillights are a clear reference to Lancia's sporty soul, which found its most radical expression to date in the iconic Lancia Stratos sports car of the 1970s.

The new Lancia lettering is placed between the rear lights. The semicircular roofline is one of the architectural elements typical of the new Lancia design. It allows passengers a wide panoramic view. The rear window is another reference to the Lancia Beta HPE of the 1970s: Circumferential horizontal lines cite the blind-like panels on the C-pillars of the Beta HPE.

An interior like a living room

The interior of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE also reflects the brand's new design language. Simple forms that stand out from the usual style of current automobiles determine the look. The interior is inspired by the elegant atmosphere of Italian homes and their harmonious architecture. Influences from Italian interior design are evident, for example, in the round carpets and the front seats, which are based on iconic armchairs from the luxury furniture brand Cassina in terms of shape, upholstery and color scheme. Pure geometric shapes can also be found on the round shelves on the center console and in the dashboard.

The dashboard also goes beyond the scope of automotive design and is designed as a glass element that is divided into individual segments. The overall large area of glazing allows a lot of natural light into the interior of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE and thus promotes a feel-good atmosphere for the passengers. This creates a hospitable ambience with the character of a cozy living room. Blinds in the headliner create an interplay of light and shadow in the interior, while the central part is designed as a luminous element. This interacts with the new operating system and its functions.

The collaboration between Lancia and Cassina

The interior of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is the result of a collaboration between Lancia and Cassina, two renowned exponents of "Made in Italy". Both brands share the values of Italian style, innovation, tradition and sustainability. The luxury furniture brand Cassina is backed by 100 years of expertise, innovation and research. Now, together with Lancia, Cassina is transferring its know-how from furniture production to the automotive sector.

The result is a unique crossover of classic furnishing elements and automotive components. It corresponds to the vision of Cassina (The Cassina Perspective) to create products that combine a traditional soul with innovative modernity. This creates an inviting ambience that meets the demand for design excellence. Cassina transfers the comfort of upholstered elements, the functionality of a coffee table, the warmth of carpets and the materials of furniture to the interior of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE.

Lancia-style sustainability

Lancia combines the terms Sustainability and Style to the made-up word suitability. The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is the first realization of this combination of sustainability and style. suitability stands for the idea of an elegant and sustainable living experience in the perfect Lancia style and in line with the brand's ten-year strategy. 70 percent of the touchable surfaces in the interior of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE are made of environmentally friendly materials. Four values characterize Lancia's path into the future: reinterpretation of traditions, Italianità, eclecticism and a sense of well-being.

Reinterpretation of traditions for Lancia means redesigning iconic components of historic car models with innovative, recycled and recyclable materials. The materials, in turn, are manufactured using sustainable processes. An example of this are the seat covers of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE. A fabric typical of previous Lancias, an ocher velvet, has been reinterpreted and modernized by Cassina. The covers are certified by the environmental institute GreenGuard®, which confirms low chemical emissions and low impact on global warming during manufacture.

Italianness, the essence, style and nature of Italy and the people who live in Italy, is part of Lancia's DNA. Translated into automobiles, Italianità means the use of materials that symbolize the style of Italy and are the expression of a unique heritage in terms of beauty, authenticity and craftsmanship.

The door panels of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE are made from the material MARM\MORE®. This term combines the stone marble with the English word for more (more). MARM\MORE® adds value to marble because its processing creates a new and different perception of the material. Half of it is made from powder from marble production and half from recycled material. MARM\MORE® is dyed with natural colors, feels soft and is still waterproof. This is how marble changes from heavy and static to light and portable. MARM\MORE was developed by textile and chemical company Limonta and fashion startup FILI PARI.

eclecticism stands for the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE for the ability to draw on materials from different, non-automotive areas, for example, in the perfect Italian style. The shelf on the center console, reminiscent of a coffee table, is made of M49 BioAcetate Renew™, a cellulose acetate. This thermoplastic is widely used in the fashion world, for example in eyewear. Cellulose acetate can be processed in seemingly endless styles, colors, effects and graphics - the perfect material for interior components of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE.

Under living feeling Lancia knows how to create an interior ambience inspired by elegant Italian houses. Passengers should feel at home on board. The parcel shelf covers the rear seats with an innovative inlay made from a special wood. This is made from leftover wood using a process developed by the Italian sustainability specialist Tabu. Experienced carpenters use the raw material to create original workpieces, for example for the interior of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE.

Another factor in the creation of the feeling of living on board are the handmade carpets made of pure wool. Its round shape with 3D effects takes up stylistic features of the dashboard and the shelf on the center console. Parts of the interior are lined with velvety nubuck leather by Poltrona Frau. This leather was manufactured in Italy in a certified supply chain and without chrome tanning.

Lancia's electrification strategy

Lancia's renaissance is in line with the Stellantis Group's electrification strategy. The new Lancia Ypsilon, planned for 2024, will therefore only come onto the market with electrified drives: either in an electric version or with hybrid technology. From 2026 all new Lancia vehicle models will be fully electric and from 2028 the brand will only offer electric vehicles. As a preview of this era, the fully drivable Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept vehicle also makes a statement in terms of range, charging time and efficiency.

Lancia has historically been successful in three segments: city cars, compact cars and luxury sedans. Future Lancia models will also compete in these areas and set standards. Technologically, they will benefit from the platforms of the Stellantis Group. The target group of the new Lancia are progressive customers who are looking for timeless elegance, Italian character and innovation, but do not want to forego a comfortable and pleasant driving experience.

Lancia Pu+Ra HPE - the harbinger of a new era at Lancia!

The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE study is based on the chassis and drive of the future Lancia Ypsilon. The vision envisages an electric range of more than 700 kilometers. In order to achieve this, efficient aerodynamics are also a prerequisite. Lancia implements this goal in the concept vehicle with, among other things, the low body, slim camera exterior mirrors and a clad front end. Air resistance is further reduced by streamlined rims and special Goodyear tires with aerodynamically shaped side walls.

Innovative operating concept for the Lancia of the future

The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is the first vehicle equipped with the SALA virtual interface, which will also be found on the new Lancia Ypsilon. SALA guarantees simple, effortless and intuitive operation that makes life on board easier. In Italian, SALA means living room. The four letters are also an abbreviation for Sound, Air, Light and Increase. SALA is the first brand within the Stellantis Group to enable Lancia to use Chameleon and TAPE (Tailored predictive experience) to offer. These systems centralize the functions of audio, air conditioning and lighting. For example, it is possible to control sound and ambience by touching a single button or by voice commands.

SALA offers three modes to choose from:

  • IMMERSIVE enhances the driving experience thanks to Stellantis Chameleon technology, used for the first time in an automobile. The Chamaleon system is able to adapt the interior ambience to the outside environment by adjusting the audio system, ventilation and light incidence accordingly.
  • The mode WELLBEING uses Stellantis TAPE artificial intelligence to predict passenger moods. The audio system, ventilation and light incidence are regulated accordingly in order to improve the well-being of the passengers through a better atmosphere on board.
  • In mode ENTERTAINMENT the system offers a diverse entertainment program. Among other things, it is possible to stream films, activate video games or surf social networks.

The new Lancia Ypsilon will be the first model to be equipped with the SALA interface. In order to realize an even more comprehensive driving experience, Stellantis will continue to develop the SALA technology platform. In this way, after Lancia, the other brands in the group will also be able to adapt specific functionalities to the various vehicle models.
