The off-road veteran Land Rover Defender has been indispensable for decades when it comes to expedition vehicles and four-wheel drive vehicles. Even after the introduction of the modern successor (L 663), the British classic still has a large fan base, which appreciates the rustic character and the indestructible technology. However, the tuning company ECD Automotive Design makes so-called ones out of it Restomod vehicles. In other words, you integrate modern comfort features and the latest technology without questioning the off-road capability of the Landy. The "Project Mayhem" based on a 1984 D110 Signature is such a vehicle, and we would like to present it to you today.
In Santorini Painted black!
Externally, the complete paintwork falls in Santorini Black, a color that is otherwise available ex works for modern Land Rover models and was never in the program for the old Defender. The off-road ambitions of the car are underlined by 33-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires (AT – 33″ Diameter 295 55 20), which are mounted on concave 20-inch alloy wheels (Kahn Mondial Retro) with a black finish in a star design.
Every component of the vehicle is painted in black and the Underrun protection and the electronic cable winch ensure even greater off-road capability. As soon as you set eyes on the Land Rover, you think you are staring at a vehicle that is as black as a black hole in the universe. There is also an electronically controlled air suspension (ECD Air Ride) and a Brembo brake system with black brake calipers, which ensure that the load comes to a safe stop at all speeds.
Extraordinary interior in the Landi!
In the cockpit, a maximum of four occupants sit in Corbeau racing bucket seats in the first two rows, while the driver sits in a Nero Sport steering wheel from MOMO looks. All American dashboards and a Kenwood Excelon touchscreen (alternatively an Alpine system) with wireless Apple Car Play are also in the pilot's field of vision. In the rear part, there are also two side-mounted benches, which can accommodate four more passengers. So it's an eight-seater. Black also dominates the interior, as the leather seats, door panels and teak inlays are black.
GM's LT4 V8 petrol engine drives the veteran!
Friends of the electric drive should stop reading now, but fans of large-volume V8 engines will get their money's worth. the V8 petrol from General Motors, which is installed in this vehicle, delivers a whopping 650 hp. As a result, the speeding box accelerates from zero to 5 km/h in around 100 seconds. Unfortunately, we don't know anything about the top speed, but it should be significantly higher than the production model.
Our conclusion:
- Another great project, which is certainly not cheap. Finally, prices for a customDefender from ECD Automotive Designs only at an astronomical 224.995 US dollars and there are hardly any upper limits. Even a Tesla e-drive is possible if you prefer an electric drive in the Defender. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report.
