Legacy Overland Toyota FJ40 Restomod with 5,7 liter V8

Those were the days! When the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 came on the market, real off-road vehicles for the rough and not just any SUVs were used. And back then, even with a thoroughbred off-road vehicle, at least here in Germany, you really noticed. Because back then there were hardly any four-wheel drive cars or even off-road vehicles. At the end of the 70s, just 4500 off-road vehicles had made it onto our roads and even in hilly Switzerland there were only 2350 vehicles with all-wheel drive. And none of them was a "Sport Utility Vehicle", but if it was a real off-roader such as the FJ40 from Toyota, the Jeep CJ7, the Daihatsu Wildcat and of course not to forget the Mercedes G-Class.

And we have now discovered one of these rare specimens. Namely a completely restored and rebuilt Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 that the specialists from Legacy Overland have put together. Painted in the typical Desert Storm Tan beige, the FJ40 from 1982 is still equipped with white accents on the radiator grille, the aprons and the steel rims and thus kept as original as possible. Even the 16-inch steel rims are original and the chrome-plated hub caps were already available at that time. Regarding the tires, the tuner opted for coarse BFGoodrich Mud / Terrain rubbers in the 285/75 R16 format, which are coupled to a completely new chassis with Old Man Emu leaf springs and other special chassis components.

And the headlights, for example, are also kept in the optics of that time. However, this is a modern variant with LED technology and LED is also used at the rear. Many small details such as the Hi-Lift jack installed on the side, the petrol can in body color or the full spare wheel on the rear door complete the visual appearance of the FJ40. But that's not enough. Because the absolute highlight is under the hood. Here, Legacy Overland installed a 5.7-liter GM crate engine that was coupled to a GM-700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. In addition, tuning components such as a Weber 600 CFM carburettor with electric chok were installed, and a nice-sounding sports exhaust system was installed on the FJ40. Incidentally, the Japanese are braked by means of disc brakes at the front and rear, and there is no need to do without useful components such as power steering or an improved fuel tank.

And you don't even have to do without a completely new cabin. Here, too, everything has been completely restored. The tuner installed black “vegan” leather upholstery with Desert Storm accents, there was a leather-covered dashboard, padded door panels and the footwell was lined with a specially made vinyl carpet. And of course some components from the modern era are also installed here. It is worth mentioning, for example, a fully-fledged air conditioning system, there was a RestroSound Long Beach sound system with four loudspeakers including Bluetooth and Sirius XM satellite radio, and you don't have to do without a USB charging port in the restored classic.
