2022 Lexus NX gets accessories from TRD!

At least in Europe, it is one of the absolute exotic species in the SUV segment, and its design polarizes a lot even a few years after the market launch. Some find it great and brave, others find the car too overstyled and has too many convex and concave lines, which work together in an inharmonious way. From our point of view, however, there is a different styling in the uniformity of the premium SUV models, which all look pretty similar if you don't show a preference for a certain brand, but objectively look at the lines of the individual. Lexus has gone its own way since the last generation of models, and has developed from a brand that was as unspectacular for many as a bank counter to a manufacturer of polarizing designer items, and at breakneck speed. The transformation succeeded within a few years, and there is no end in sight, as the design of the Japanese luxury models is continuously being developed.

TRD accessories are a topic of conversation

Today we introduce you to accessories from Toyota's in-house tuner TRD for the Lexus NX, which makes the SUV even more individual. If you think you can’t get more out of a vehicle that already has versatile lines, then TRD comes along and simply proves the opposite. A front spoiler, which, according to TRD, should even improve the feedback from the steering and the aerodynamics, new Sport exterior mirror caps and wider side skirts ensure an improvement in air resistance.

From our point of view, it remains to be seen whether the add-on parts are really needed. A prominent one diffuser, which is probably used purely for the show, is also available at an additional cost. The somewhat wild range of parts is completed by one Four pipe exhaust system with the classic 2 + 2 arrangement, whereby the exhaust pipes are even placed below the diffuser. As a result, the ground clearance is noticeably reduced, and the SUV, which is already not very suitable for off-road use, is only suitable for the boulevard. In addition, there are also forged 20-inch alloy wheels available, which come up with a complex spoke design, which from our point of view contributes to the line management overkill. However, the wheels are a little lighter than the original rims of the NX, so that there is little weight saving.

But that's not all, because TRD also has Performance shock absorbers developed, which should significantly reduce the driving noise and vibrations of the NX. There is even one for an extra charge Underbody paneling which from our point of view is completely superfluous. Equipped in this way, you can visit the next JDM meeting with the NX without worries and make an impression there.

three engines are available

A gasoline and a gasoline hybrid engine are available for the SUV, and the gasoline engine without electrification is impressive 235 PS and 350 Newtonmeter maximum torque. The hybrid version does 242 PS and combines a 2,5-liter petrol engine with an electric drive that charges itself. A plug-in hybrid is even available for the vehicle in selected regions, but the system performance has not yet been announced. We are not yet able to provide precise information about the performance, but it should be sufficient for everyday use.

Our Conclusion to the TRD styling kit on the new Lexus NX:

It takes a lot of getting used to, and from our point of view not harmonious, the tuning kit looks oversized on the NX. In this case, less is clearly more.
