Lotus Eletre (2023): Presentation of the 5-meter electric SUV!

What Colin Chapman, the lightweight construction enthusiast and founder of Lotus would think of it, will probably never be answered. With the Eletre (length: 5,10 m, width over 2 m), Lotus is paving the way to the electromobile future. To date, the super electric SUV has operated under the company's internal name Type 132. Significantly, the weight is still top secret. Under two tons? We bet against it! With the vehicle, Lotus is breaking new ground in many respects. The Eletre is the first production 5-door, an SUV premiere and the first vehicle to be called scooter is mass-produced by Lotus (the Evija was only available as a small series).

In terms of appearance, there are similarities to the Lamborghini Urus, as we find it. Two electric motors are available as drives, one at the front and one at the rear. As a performance there Lotus 600 HP (English for PS) - which corresponds to approx. 447 kW. With the battery of 100 kWh, according to Lotus, one WLTP range of approx. 600 km achieved. With 800V, the E SUV can allegedly be charged in 20 minutes at any charging station (at 350 KW charging capacity) for a further 400 km range. An alternative would be to charge the battery with alternating current (up to 22kW).

In Portuguese, Eletre simply means "Electric", which explains the name. At the same time, however, there is a significant meaning in Hungarian with "to revive". The name says it all in both respects, which Lotus also clearly communicates by using the translation “coming to life”. The material mix of aluminum for the body and black carbon for the roof and aprons ensures a spectacular futuristic appearance. Filigree lights and spoilers as well as a flat silhouette speak a cool, sporty design language and characterize you avant-garde sports car. The futuristic appearance is also supported by three innovative cameras (Electric Reverse Mirror Display/ERMD) underlined, which can be ordered instead of return seals. Typical racing rims in 23 inches, with inserts made of carbon and ceramic brakes (10 pistons) are impressive sports car details in the electric SUV.

Inside, the steering wheel is flattened at the top and bottom, a 15,1-inch landscape touchscreen (folds up if desired), and the instrument display consists of a single line just three centimeters high. Even the front passenger has such an information tape available. A head-up display with augmented reality technology is factory-fitted and the dashboard is traversed by an LED light strip across the entire width. This changes color according to different states, such as when the cabin temperature changes, a phone call comes in or the charge level is displayed. Further details are:

  • Switches for driving modes P, N, R and D in the center console
  • Center console with additional display (9 inches) at the back between the seats
  • available as a four-seater and as a five-seater
  • Five-link rear axle
  • air suspension & electronically controlled dampers
  • Rear axle steering with active stabilizer
  • The platform can be used for upper compact class (C+) to upper upper middle class (E+).

Different driving modes can be set with a switch on the center console. And the platform of the new electric SUV will serve as the basis for further new developments and series. Built in Wuhan, China, the LOTUS ELETRE (pronounced Elettra) is to be produced from 2022. A price is not yet known. However, reservations are already possible for deliveries from 2023 in Europe and the USA.
