The British sports car manufacturer Lotus, which now belongs to the Chinese Geely group and is busy working on a hypercar with 2000 electric horsepower and a sporty SUV that is supposed to compete with the Porsche Macan, is now launching a strictly limited special series of its long-running favorite, Elise launched in Australia. The Lotus Elise Cup 250 Bathurst Edition. A very bulky name for such a small and puristic roadster, which is at home on winding country roads, but can also shine with sporty driving performance on the highway. With this model, Lotus honors the Bathurst 12-hour race, which takes place annually on the Australian Mount Panorama Circuit, and at the same time refers to the long tradition that the company maintains in Down Under. After all, Australia was the sixth largest market worldwide for vehicles of the Lotus brand in 2019 and only there is the new exclusive special series of the Lotus Elise sold. The exact number of vehicles produced is not yet known, but it should be in the double-digit range.
only a cup racing car is more puristic
The Lotus Elise presents itself slim and slim as always, with the large headlights, which look into the world like insect eyes, and a racing car-like look, to which the large rear wing also fits perfectly, which has a Union Jack flag on the left and right as a small gimmick wearing. The small round taillights present themselves in the usual Lotus style and the rounded rear looks much less aggressively designed than with other super sports cars. Everything superfluous has been left out of the interior, and where other super athletes now shine in the interior with leather-curled comfort zones, the Elise still embodies the racing car feeling that is rarely found today. The sequential gearbox also contributes to the puristic character of the car, which can compete on the racetrack with the greatest of its kind, since it literally sticks to the road like Pattex and reaches crazy cornering speeds.
the performance data are a bit deceptive
At first you think that the Lotus Elise with its 246 hp and just 250 Newton meters of maximum torque, can no longer keep up with modern super sports cars, but you are wrong, because the bullet weighs only 931 kg and has a power-to-weight ratio of astonishing 3,78 kg / PS. The 1,8-liter four-cylinder with supercharged catapults the British from 4,3 to 0 km / h in a staggering 100 seconds, and propulsion only ends at 248 km / h.
Who is the Bathurst Edition recommended for?
This is a fascinating automobile that completely dispenses with bells and whistles and thus gets its fascination. It is a toy for adults who have not lost the child in themselves, and just want to have fun with this part on a warm and sunny weekend, and have a second car available for everyday use that offers more comfort. The price of this special model has not yet been fixed, but should be around AUD 110.000, which is approximately EUR 90.000 with taxes and import duties in Europe.
