Moskvich

The OAO Moskwitsch (AZLK) was a Soviet / Russian manufacturer from Moscow. In 2006, however, after some very successful years, it went bankrupt. It's a shame actually ... Because the Moskvich was more or less the VW Beetle of the USSR and they had big plans for the US market too. In the 1980s, the successful Moskvich-2141 came onto the market, although it only had the lame engine from the old Moskvich-412. Still, it was quite a success! In the 1990s, they wanted to catch up to the global automotive standard again, but both the Moskvich 2141 (inspired by Simca 1307) and the 2142 (Juri Dolgoruki, Iwan Kalita, Knjas Wladimir & Duet) were unable to implement this. In the end there were debts of around 700 million euros, which ensured that Moskvich finally disappeared from the scene in spring 2006. Nevertheless, the manufacturer has to be credited with the fact that up to this point in time over 4 million vehicles were produced and many are still looked after today and remind of the good old days.
