Mahindra

The Indian automobile company Mahindra & Mahindra Limited was founded in 1945 by the brothers Jagdish Chandra and Kailash Chandra Mahindra with the subsequent Pakistani Governor General Ghulam Mohammed. The company's history began with steel trading and in 1947 the first CJ jeeps began rolling from Willys-Overland to India. In 1949 the assembly and auto-tuning of jeeps from the imported parts of the Willys-Overland followed. In 1969/1970 M & M began exporting its vehicles. In 1974 a contract was signed with Kaiser-Jeep. The development and tuning of Mahindra took its course and in 1979 an extensive collaboration followed Peugeot in the diesel engine sector (M&M owns 51% of Peugeot Motocycles). The company expanded its sector. The bus, tractor, electronic control and machine tool divisions followed. In the 80s Mahindra followed the trend of the "off-road vehicle". The Mahindra off-road vehicles were assembled under license from other vehicle companies. The "Tosan Commander Jeep" was externally assembled in Tehran and produced under license in Werdau, Saxony, in the early 90s.
