Mercedes-Benz at the Caravan Salon in 2021!

At the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, Mercedes-Benz will again be represented with a stand in Hall 28 from August 5 to September 16. The highlight: the public presentation of the new small van with the star, the Citan, just a few days after its premiere. With camping modules, Mercedes-Benz is demonstrating the redesign options for this type of vehicle that predominate in the vanlife scene. Also on display at the stand: Motorhomes based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter from Le Voyageur, Kabe, Eura Mobil and Alphavan as well as the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo camper models - new equipment included. The brand with a star is thus exhibiting its entire portfolio, from large to mid-size to small vans, at the world's largest trade fair for motorhomes and caravans.

the Caravan Salon 2021

“We congratulate Messe Düsseldorf on the 60th Caravan Salon. We look forward to being there again this year and introducing the world of Mercedes-Benz vans to all vanlife enthusiasts - and those who want to become one. I am particularly looking forward to customer feedback on the brand new generation of our Citan, which will soon be available on the market. Because one thing is clear: the travel and leisure vehicle market is becoming increasingly important as part of our strategic orientation, ”says Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Vans.

The new Citan: 'Small' but great, even in micro-camper use

In the small vans segment, Mercedes-Benz will present the successor to the Citan on August 25. The new Citan is a completely new development. The vehicle has the DNA that is typical of the brand, for example in terms of unmistakable design, safety and connectivity. These properties, in combination with compact external dimensions and at the same time well thought-out space in the interior, will in future also open up a wide range of options for the new small van with the star in the increasingly popular area of micro-camper conversions - like Mercedes-Benz a few days after its digital premiere at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf.

New motorhome products in Düsseldorf show that the Sprinter is still on the road to success

There are four Sprinter-based motorhomes at the Mercedes stand in Düsseldorf this year: the Campervan from Alphavan, recently awarded the Red Dot Design Award and now available for the first time as an all-wheel-drive version, Edition 4 × 4, the semi-integrated Royal from Kabe and Contura from Eura Mobile, as well as the new fully integrated Héritage motorhome from Le Voyageur. Other Sprinter-based innovations on site: including the chic c-line XL from Carthago, the Neo MT 7 BD from Frankia, or the Silverdream 690 RS from Wanner and the HRZ City from HRZ Reisemobile.

As in previous years, there will be numerous new Sprinter-based products at the Caravan Salon in 2021. They make it clear: the Sprinter impresses traditional companies, startups and end customers. With a view to the motorhome industry, this is also borne out by the order books: incoming orders have been increasing continuously since the market launch of the current generation in 2018, and have even more than doubled compared to the previous model.

New engine, new transmission and more: technology upgrade for the Sprinter

The basis for this success: When developing the third generation of the Sprinter, the needs of motorhome owners and manufacturers were taken into account right from the start. In autumn 2021, the large van with the star will also be making technical improvements here.

From autumn, the Sprinter will be available in all body and drive variants with the powerful and efficient four-cylinder diesel OM 654 from the Mercedes-Benz Cars portfolio. The OM 654 is available for the Sprinter - depending on the variant selected - in four output levels: 84 kW (114 PS), 110 kW (150 PS), 125 kW (170 PS) and 140 kW (190 PS). As a further innovation, Mercedes-Benz is combining the modern 2,0-liter unit with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, as an alternative to the 6-speed manual transmission, and with a new all-wheel drive system on request. This means that the Sprinter is even closer to the driving comfort experience of Mercedes-Benz cars - on and off the road.

In addition, a chassis variant, which is now available as an option for the Sprinter with front and rear-wheel drive, further increases the roll stability of the iconic van, both when entering the parked vehicle and while driving. A gain, especially when it comes to motorhome use, due to the high focus of the vehicle category.

Even more style and comfort: Marco Polo family with new equipment

Mercedes-Benz's presence at the trade fair will be rounded off with the 'in-house' Marco Polo models in 2021. Both the compact camper Marco Polo and the recreational vehicle Marco Polo HORIZON are on display. And - just like the third family member, Marco Polo ACTIVITY - can be ordered with new product features on time for the Caravan Salon.

Style lovers can now look forward to an optionally available aquamarine-colored bellows and three optionally selectable decors for the vehicle sides, all in matt black and also with aquamarine-colored accents - based on the former special model ArtVenture. Its special optics had received a lot of customer approval; Reason for Mercedes-Benz to turn it into individual special equipment. In addition, all Marco Polo models can now be ordered with the Mercedes brand logo projected onto the driver and front passenger door, which is familiar from the passenger car series. The projectors are located below the door panel. They are switched on and off via the door contact. When the doors are opened, a Mercedes star is projected onto the floor in the entrance area.

For those who want even more living comfort, there is now the front opening in the bellows of the pop-up roof, known from the former special model ArtVenture, as an individual option. The front opening ensures improved air circulation. As standard, a new additional warm air heater with increased performance and an update of the smart home module MBAC (Mercedes-Benz Advanced Control) with an extended range of functions, including a time control for the new heating, including subsequent reduction, further increase the sense of well-being in the living space.

The new standard seat comfort package, in turn, improves the comfort experience for the driver and front passenger on the way to vacation as well as in everyday life. In addition to a lumbar support, the seat comfort package also offers seat cushion depth adjustment. The support surface for the thighs is unlocked by a handle in the front area of the seat and can be pulled manually in the direction of travel. The seat is extended by up to six centimeters and can be adjusted in one-centimeter steps.

Growth plans for compact campers from and based on Mercedes-Benz

The compact Marco Polo models have enjoyed steadily growing popularity since the introduction of the current generation in 2015 and the model upgrade in 2019. This year alone, Mercedes-Benz is planning 20 percent growth.

At the same time, the brand with the star is increasingly establishing itself with its mid-size vans as basic vehicles for conversions by motorhome manufacturers. In 2021 Pössl, a specialist in panel van conversions, is launching two new products based on the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and the Vito on the European market: the Campstar and Vanstar. Eurocaravanning is also following the trend towards compact vehicles with the VanTourer Urban based on the Mercedes-Benz Vito. And Mercedes-Benz midsize vans are also gaining a foothold in the vanlife scene in the USA. As one of the first US manufacturers in the motorhome segment, Driverge Vehicle Innovations is based on the Vito with the Metris Getaway.
