Five Mercedes-AMG teams at the start

In 2018, Mercedes-AMG ended its last DTM season to date with a historic triple title: Gary Paffett drove in the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM to his second driver's title in an exciting finale ahead of teammate Paul di Resta in the sister car. Both drivers thus also secured the team title of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport PETRONAS and thus made a significant contribution to winning the manufacturers' championship.

The main racing team is sending two Mercedes-AMG GT3s into the DTM season. The two vehicles will be driven by the Mercedes-AMG drivers Maximilian Götz and Vincent Abril. Götz, most recently particularly successful in the ADAC GT Masters, the Intercontinental GT Challenge and the Nürburgring endurance series, is returning to the DTM for the first time since 2016. His team-mate, DTM debutant Vincent Abril, also has many years of racing experience in various GT series.

The WINWARD Racing team also has experienced GT3 drivers at the steering wheel who have already proven their skills on numerous occasions. One of the two team cars is driven by five-time DTM race winner Lucas Auer, who is returning to the DTM for Mercedes-AMG after a two-year break. Philip Ellis will celebrate his DTM premiere in the team's second GT3. He and his driver colleagues from WINWARD Racing last clinched the first victory of a Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Team in the GTD class of the traditional endurance race in January 2021 at the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

The 3 DTM champion, Gary Paffett, will be at the start with the Mercedes-AMG GT2018 from Mücke Motorsport. The native of London is returning to the series with the accumulated experience of 15 DTM seasons and is aiming for his third championship title in the drivers' championship after 2005 and 2018.

There is a premiere in the GT3 from GetSpeed Performance: With Arjun Maini, a driver from India will be sitting in the cockpit of a DTM vehicle for the first time. Maini began his career in karting and formula racing and was active, among other things, in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. For two years he has been driving endurance races in the European Le Mans Series and the Asian Le Mans Series; In 2019, he also demonstrated his driving skills at the legendary Le Mans 24-hour race.

Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport: “It is great and of course also a great challenge that Mercedes-AMG Motorsport is now also competing in the DTM with the Mercedes-AMG GT3. With the entry into this traditional racing series, we are putting our successful Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Program on a further pillar. For our customer sports area and the Mercedes-AMG GT3, this offers a large and well-known platform to expand our brand presence. It is all the more gratifying that, together with our customer teams, we were able to set up such an extensive program with a total of seven Mercedes-AMG GT3s, deployed by five teams and a strong driver line-up.
